Chapter 1

Five billion years later. . . .

As the early morning welcomed the warm sunshine of the summer, the path between a field and a dark forest, that led to Sunpawut town was all quiet. The only noises heard were the birds singing its usual melodies of summer time. That is until a group of foreign people came to the scene. The six teenagers, or rather, young adults, sped their legs as fast as they could to escape a rare red dragon. All of them had already had a chance to battle the hungry creature with no luck. The dragon threw attacks as he stomped earthshaking steps and ran for his fast food.

"This is all your fault Zelgadis!!!" Lina yelled as she jumped out of the way of another explosive ambush from the dragon. "If you haven't had snatched that old man's book of healing spells, we could be off in an 'All You Can Eat Buffet'!!" Zelgadis tried to answer Lina, but was cut off by an electric shock throughout his body. Everybody felt it as well and dropped to the dirt path, unable to move. The dragon smirked and a golden laser gleamed through his devilish eyes, setting a wall of fire around the paralyzed people. Just when the red dragon thought he could finally have his late morning breakfast, another figure appeared before him. A teenager with thick, silky hair in a shade of medium blue with light blue for highlights, done in a high ponytail, foreign warrior clothes, looked up confidently to the twenty-foot or taller creature with her bluish turquoise eyes. The dragon roared and prepared to make a kill. The girl took out a peach coloured seashell with many spikes and a whole at the end of each one. This seashell was made into a wind-like instrument, similar to a piccolo. She blew into the mouth hole and began to play a sweet, relaxing song. The red dragon's claws halted a few inches away from the teenager's head. His ears couldn't resist the mystical tune being played. The beast gradually forgot of his chase and hunger as he walked out of sight. The new character returned the unusual musical instrument back in her little belt pouch and released gushes of clear water from her hand to put the blaze out. She turned around to observe the unexpected encounter with six foreign people during her training.

"MMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!! OOOOOIIIIIIIIIIIIIIISHIIIIIIII (This is good)!!!!!" Lina commented while stuffing more grub into her mouth. Gourry did the same, with more food. Xellos, Filia and Amelia attempted to ignore the loud munching and chewing as they ate their meal. The teenage girl took the visitors to her cabin in the middle of a dark forest and bandaged them. They recovered late at night and the teenager insisted them in staying for dinner. Of course they didn't mind staying, since they haven't eaten all day.

"Thank you very much for doing all this for us." Amelia said and helped bring the dishes back to the kitchen.

"It's nice to have new visitors once in a while." The girl smiled.

"So, who are ya? You gotta name?" Xellos asked and placed his feet on the wooden table. Filia, though, immediately knocked the priest down from his chair with her trusty metal spike hammer.

"Mind your manners"

"Oh, that's right! My name is Aya Gr--" Aya was interrupted by Gourry's satisfying burp that echoed throughout the woods.

"Ah, oishikata~~~~ (that was good)!!" The group shook their heads.

"Go on Aya, what's you're last name?" Filia said.

"That's alright, the last name's not that important." The blue haired girl reassured. Lina finished her last plate of food and set the utensils down and entered the conversation.

"Do you live here all by yourself? And what's that silver star on your forehead?" Everyone else leaned forward and gazed at the teenager's forehead, covered in baby bangs. They noticed as well the six pointed star. Aya nervously stared at the floor as she took a seat on an empty chair. She had never told anyone of the silver star, since it's linked to the past she knew very little of. Deciding to lead the conversation away from the symbol on her forehead, she went with the first question.

"No, I don't live here alone. I have a friend who lives with me as well."

"Really? Who?" Amelia looked around the room to see if the friend could be somewhere in one of the bedrooms.

"Well, she's outside in her stable. I can introduce you to her if you want to."

"YEAH!!!" The little princess jumped up and down and followed the girl outside, the others following behind. "Hey wait, does anyone know where Zelgadis went?"

"He said he wasn't hungry and went outside."

"Oh he's probably looking through that spelling book he stole." Xellos said with a grin. Filia and Amelia punched the sarcastic priest square in the face and went on. Gourry scratched his head confusingly as they neared the horse stable,

"Why did Zelgadis steal a spelling book?" Lina sighed and prepared to explain, once again.

"It's not a spelling book. It's a book of healing spells."

". . . . ? If he wanted the healing spell book, then why did he get a spelling book?"

"(Sigh) NO!! He didn't steal a spelling book!! He - stole - a - book - of - healing - spells. Get it?"

" . . . . . .?? What did I get? It's not my birthday yet."

"GGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!! I GIVE UP!! YOU'LL NEVER GET IT BONEHEAD!!"

"I get a bonehead for my birthday?"

"Ah, I see our future couple already." Xellos snickered, but quickly silenced when Lina shot a vicious stare. Aya opened the unlocked stable door and let everyone in. She always kept the stable locked, but someone had broken the lock. The girl wasn't alarmed though, because she sensed the chimera teenager inside with her friend.

"KYAAAAAAAAAAAA!!! KAWAII (Cute)!!!" Amelia screeched. Aya watched everyone gaze their eyes on a winged unicorn with the same shade of hair as her. The mystical horse's body mane was pure white with beautiful silky hair. The horn on her forehead was shimmering gold and her eyes were dark turquoise.

"I've never seen a unicorn with wings before!" Lina petted her mane.

"Her name is Dream. We met ten years ago in a place called Pankingna. Dream was injured with broken wings, so I took care of her until her wings healed. Since then, we became inseparable."

"She's so beautiful . . . (Sigh) I wish I had a horse like that." Filia's eyes sparkled as she clasped her hands together and imagined herself flying on an angelic winged unicorn like Dream.

"Of course," Xellos began, "it'll have to be a very strong horse to be able to carry you that high Filia." Quick as a blink, the blonde lady swung her fatal weapon at the Trickster Priest with rage. Aya's foot stepped on, what used to be a book of healing spells, was now a rubble of torn paper. She picked up the ruined book and glanced at the visitor whose been so quiet near the corner. The girl came and sat beside Zelgadis, who depressingly stared off into space. He failed once again to find a cure for his cursed spell. He soon believed that there was no cure and he would remain a chimera till he died, thanks to his great-grandfather.

"What are you trying to find a cure for?" The voice almost surprised him and he stuttered in the first few words."

"Huh? . . .Umm . . . I - I . . . Uhh . . . (cough). . . . Ore . . . ningen ni modoretainda (I want to become human again)."
