31 July -Suker say his final farewell to the Gunners

West Ham striker Davor Suker has thanked Arsene Wenger for the opportunity he was given to play in the English Premiership.

The Croatian international has also expressed his gratitude to the Gunners fans for the way they took him to their hearts in the year he spent at Highbury.

"I had a good relationship with Arsene Wenger and made a number of friends who I will always remember," Suker said.

"I really enjoy living London and I didn't want to leave the Premier League.
"I would like to thank the Arsenal fans for the great reception they always gave me," he added.

Suker's first-team opportunities at Arsenal were limited with the massive
impact that Thierry Henry made in his first season.

But the World Cup Golden Boot winner of 1998 still netted 11 goals for the
Gunners and is not angry at having to move to London rivals West Ham for regular action.

"We had some quality strikers at Arsenal and if you ask any big name player,

Suker's final words to the Arsenal fans before making his first appearance in a West Ham shirt was to repeat his apologies for his penalty miss in the UEFA Cup Final against Copenhagen in what proved to be his final match for the Gunners.

"The penalty miss against Galatasaray was my fault and I am still very angry about it. I want to apologise to the Arsenal fans for that mistake.

"The miss still plays on my mind because it was my last game for Arsenal and we had the chance to win the UEFA Cup."

25 July - Suker on a goal mission

Davor Suker will be a man on a mission when he leads West Ham's attack next season. Suker is desperate to prove to Arsenal that they were wrong to let him go this summer and the striker's Croatian international team-mate Igor Stimac confirmed today:

'Davor is really hungry again. He has a point to prove to Arsenal.'
Suker, who returned from holiday last week, was not fit enough to play in
Tuesday's pre-season friendly in Glasgow but was up in Scotland to watch his new team lose 2-1 to Celtic.

Stimac played the full match, however, and said today: 'Davor will score at least 15 goals for us next season, probably more. He knows we create lots of chances and has told me he is looking forward to getting on the end of them.'

'Davor is a world class goalscorer and he is relishing this opportunity to show the fans what he can do. He did not get too many chances at Arsenal but I believe he is just what we need at West Ham.'

'Celtic were ahead of us in terms of fitness because they begin their League season next weekend. I do believe though, that we will do well in the Premiership next season.'

'I think the club has made two clever signings in Davor and Nigel Winterburn. Considering the injury problems we had last season I thought we did very well and I can see us going much better this time.'

15 June - Suker to retire from international football in two years

New West Ham signing Davor Suker has spoken of his desire to finish his career at Upton Park - and go out on a high at the World Cup in 2002.

The Croatian international has said that he was happy to have been able to stay in the capital city, and that he is now fully-focussed on making West Ham one of England's top clubs, and sighted qualification for the Champions League as one of his primary targets.

"I have signed for two years, right until the end of the qualifying stages for the next World Cup," he told Planet Football. "Then I hope to retire with honour in Japan and Korea. I have fulfilled my desire to remain in London, at a strong and serious club, where I will play alongside Igor Stimac."

The striker said that he is determined to make his final playing seasons the best of his career so far, and is sure that he can help lead the Hammers to major honours during his time at the club.

"I felt that West Ham were in need of a natural-born-leader, and I believe
that they have found that in me. Our immediate goal is to secure qualification to the Champions League next season.

"I am preparing myself for my last two seasons, and every time I have more desire to be in great form," he added. "We are all remembered by how we play towards the end of our careers, and for that reason I want to be at the top with The Hammers."

15 June - Hammers complete Suker signing

Harry Redknapp has finally completed the capture of Croatian striker Davor Suker on a free transfer from Arsenal. Suker had never been able to establish
himself as a regular in Arsene Wenger's side, but wanted to remain in the capital.

Harry Redknapp has always admired the former Real Madrid man from afar, and was delighted to step in and take him to Upton Park on a free transfer.

"Davor is a terrific goalscorer, and he has proved he can score goals at the very highest level because he is world class," said Redknapp.

"We make a lot of chances and he is capable of scoring around 20 goals a year if he played all season, and I think he would give us an awful lot."

"I've said it before, but I'll repeat it now - Davor Suker arrived at Highbury carrying the image of a big-time Charlie, but how he proved people wrong. During his time at the club, he consistently conducted himself professionally on and off the field, despite having few opportunities to show his undoubted class"

"Davor's a smashing fellow, he's got a great attitude and still wants to play. He wasn't at all difficult to deal with, and he really fancied coming to West Ham, and I'm well pleased to have him."

The 32-year-old will link up with his countryman Igor Stimac in East London, after agreeing terms on a two-year contract. He moved to Arsenal for £3.5 million last summer, and has scored 11goals in 39 appearances for the Gunners, including one in their 2-1 defeat at Upton Park last October.

15 June - Hammers set to sign Suker next week

15 June - HAMMERS STILL KEEN ON SUKER

Harry Redknapp has moved swiftly to deny reports that Davor Suker is about to complete his proposed switch to Upton Park, while admitting that he is still very keen to sign the Croatian international.

It had been claimed that the former Real Madrid ace, who is being allowed to leave Highbury on a free transfer, was set to be revealed by West Ham on Friday, following weeks of speculation linking him with a move to the East End of London.

"We have been interested in Suker for a while, but we're just waiting to see. We are looking to try and do a deal, if possible, but nothing is done
definitely," Redknapp told the West Ham website.

"Davor is a terrific goalscorer, and he has proved he can score goals at the very highest level because he is world class. We make a lot of chances and he is capable of scoring around 20 goals a year if he played all season, and I think he would give us an awful lot."

The 32-year-old moved to Arsenal for £3.5 million last summer, and has
scored 11 goals in 39 appearances for the Gunners, including one in the
2-1 defeat at Upton Park last October.

18 May - PSG want Suker..........

West Ham face major opposition from French giants Paris St Germain in their bid to sign Davor Suker.

The 32-year-old Croatian striker is available on a free transfer after Arsenal decided not to take up a year's option on his contract after Suker's move from Real Madrid a year ago.

Suker admitted in Zagreb, where he was on international duty for Croatia's pre-Euro 2000 clash with world champions France, that he is considering a number of offers - including one from a London club.

He would not identify the club but West Ham have already made their interest public and in their favour is that Suker adjusted well to life in the capital.

Suker said: 'I would like to stay in London and that will be a factor when I make my decision. I have no regrets about going there and I only wish that we could have won a trophy.

The club was fantastic and so was the spirit within the club. I still think about my big error in the UEFA Cup Final when I missed a penalty. It was one of the poor moments of my career.

'The only frustration I suffered was that the team did not win a trophy. I wish we could have done that.'

West Ham will be encouraged by Suker's preference to stay in London and central defender Igor Stimac will also be attempting to persuade his compatriot to to join him at Upton Park.

But Paris St Germain - in the process of rebuilding their squad - have also been alerted to Suker's availability and are ready to make him a £1million-a-year plus offer and a two-year contract. That may put him beyond West Ham's reach.

'I will spend the next two weeks thinking about the offers, including the one to stay in London,' said Suker, who also believes that England have a good chance to excel in the Euro 2000 finals.

'They certainly have the players to do well and I see no reason why they cannot go a long way,' said Suker.

'But they will have to handle the big expectations of their public.

'Two years ago, my country Croatia finished third in the World Cup, well ahead of many big countries. What we did was take one step at a time, not think about progressing in the tournament. We had a great team spirit and a togetherness. We helped each other and supported each other.

'You have to concentrate, first, on reaching the next round by finishing in first or second place in the group to reach the next round.

'You have to forget about the pressure to win every game. The secret is to get through, not how you get through.'

"I am always confident with penalties. I have scored many of them before. But this was an important penalty and I didn't score it, which is my fault. I have apologised to the players for that.

"I know it's a terrible time for me and every player as everyone would have liked to win the cup but that's football. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose."

Suker is believed to be staying in London when he leaves Highbury and West Ham are strong favourites for his signature. Suker refused to fuel the fires of speculation, saying: "First, I need to get some sleep. Then I will need a little time to look at the future. I don't know at the moment."

14 April  - Arsene Wenger allows Suker join Hammers for free.

Arsenal boss Arene Wenger has decide not to take the 1 year extension on Davor Suker contract. Suker is now free to speak to any club he wishes and will leave Arsenal for free.

Arsene Wenger signed Suker for £3 million in the summer as a replacement for Nicolas Anelka but Thierry Henry form has keep Suker out of the team. Arsene Wenger said ''He has paid the price for the way Thierry Henry has exploded this season. It means that I have Davor, Thierry, Dennis Bergkamp and Nwanwo Kanu for two positions'.

Arsene Wenger then added 'Davor has done really well for us but we have not been able to use him as often as he would have liked, A player of his ability deserves to be playing regularly so we will be letting him go. There is no animosity. At his age, he needs first team football. He has done well for us when we have needed him'.

He also added that Suker still has a part to play for Arsenal as they compete for the UEFA cup and also look for a champions league place next season.
'In fact, he still has a big part to play for us, in the Premiership and in
Europe, for the rest of the season' Wenger said.

West Ham manager has told Suker best friend Igor Stimac to tell Suker "we'd like you at West Ham". It now look likely that Davor Suker will be playing for West Ham beacuse he said that he want to stay in London and possible play for West Ham.

Harry Rednapp West Ham manager said 'I think Davor already knows we would love to have him here. I shall have a chat to Igor and ask him to speak to Davor on our behalf'.

11 April  - Harry Redknapp has dismiss speculation that Davor Suker

West Ham have distanced themselves from suggestions, made by Croatian international Davor Suker, that he would be joining them from Arsenal this summer. Suker has been quoted as saying that it was likely he would be moving to West Ham when his one-year contract at Highbury expired in June.
It seems certain that Arsenal will not be taking up their option to keep the striker for another year. But West Ham manager Harry Redknapp, who rates Suker  highly, said today: 'The player is still under contract at Arsenal, end of story.'

But he also added  'Suker must have one of the best goalscoring records in the
world and he is proven quality. We couldn't afford the wages he wanted last season but if he's available on a free under the Bosman Ruling then we are certainly interested.

'Nothing is decided yet. Arsene Wenger wouldn't be happy with me talking about this and so I can't comment very much at this stage. You never know, they might decide to take up their option on him and then everything is off.

'But even if we signed Kanoute we would still be interested in Suker.

8 April    - Davor Suker has set his sights on a move to West Ham or Fulham

Davor Suker has revealed he wants to leave Arsenal and move across London to
West Ham this summer.

The Croatian is Arsene Wenger's fourth-choice striker at Highbury and is ready to
walk away when the one-year contract he signed last summer expires at the end
of the season.
'I am sure I will be leaving Arsenal this summer,' said Suker. 'I think the next
destination will be West Ham. I want to stay in London as I love the life and I am
beginning to speak good English.'

Suker's failure to hold down a regular place at Arsenal has largely been down to
the emergence as a true goalscorer of Thierry Henry. While Suker has failed to
start a first-team game since the defeat at Bradford on February 5, Henry has
scored 18 times during an increasingly prolific season.

Suker, 32, remains philosophical. 'I am satisfied with what Wenger has done as, at
my age, I do not think about things that would have upset me in the past.

'Just look how much I have gained from life here. Today I am speaking such good English that I wouldn't be ashamed to address any meeting in the world.

'It is wonderful to play in England and feel the relationship between fans and
players.'

Wenger will still have an embarrassment of riches if he persuades PSV Eindhoven
striker Ruud Van Nilstelrooy to come to Highbury.

'At the start of the season I had two target men in Henry and Suker, ' said Wenger.  'Henry has taken great steps forward and that has been bad for Suker's chances.'
