Radiohead
Main Stage, V Festival
Chelmsford
August 19, 2006

Saturday night offered Kasabian for the kids and Radiohead for the serious fans. The latter stole the show with several new songs that marked a return to their rockier roots, or at least used electronics more sparingly than of late. A lightly bearded Thom Yorke sounded sublime, but wore a blank expression all evening. However, there was a smile - just a small one - before closing the set with "Creep", apparently only its second live airing in eight years. For that moment alone, this year’s V was worth its entrance fee.
