Put on the Armor of God
this came from a mailing list, Christians in Pain. I'm not sure who the author is!

This is what the Father revealed to me to help me learn to give Him all of my problems! He took me to Ephesians 6 and told me to read about His armor and this is what He showed me:
  1. Gird your waist with Truth! Now Jesus is the Truth and when you've girded yourself with Truth you must maintain honesty and integrity. In Christ's day the abdomen was believed to be the seat of emotion. So the medication for our emotions is the Truth. When you gird your emotions with the Truth, they are stabilized.
  2. Put on the breastplate of Righteousness! Of course that's Jesus, too. The model that was used for God's armor was the armor that the Roman soldiers wore in that time. The breastplate was made of bronze and covered the soldier from neck to thigh. All of his vulnerable places! It was also believed that the breast housed the heart and soul. Aren't these our most vulnerable places? So when you put on God's breastplate of righteousness it is to keep our heart and soul pure and righteous.
  3. Shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace! The sandals that the soldiers wore were made with cleats constructed of sharp nails. So now you have a way to keep your feet firmly rooted to always be prepared to spread PEACE!
  4. Take the shield of Faith to quench ALL the fiery darts of the wicked one! The Roman soldiers carried long oblong or oval shields made of iron. There was a layer of wood on each side and it was covered with linen or animal skins. When soaked with water the shields would literally quench the arrows that the enemy fired that had been soaked in pitch and ignited. When the soldiers fought side by side they could form a long wall of protection with their shields. This is what our faith does for us!
  5. The helmet of Salvation! The soldiers helmets were made of bronze with leather straps to hold them on. Your salvation cannot be knocked off nor can it fall off. The helmet would have to be taken off. The helmet protects the head and the brains. So when we are wearing the helmet of salvation it protects our thoughts and all we have to do is plead the blood of Jesus on our thoughts!
  6. The sword of the Spirit! (The Word of God) The sword of the Roman soldier was a short two-edged sword used to defeat the enemy at close range. Hebrews 4:12 says, For the word of God is living and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit and of joints and marrow and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. This is exactly what we need for close range daily defense and offense!
  7. Praying always!
Now when I think of putting on the armor of God I know how to apply it to my daily problems. If my problem is my emotions I will gird myself with Truth! To remain pure and righteous I put on the breastplate of righteousness; more and more of Jesus! I am more aware of keeping my feet firmly rooted to share God's peace all of the time. Right now I don't make a move without my shield of Faith because Satan's fiery darts are coming from every direction. I have further protection because my friends are helping me to form a wall of protection! My helmet is extremely important to cover my thoughts of doubt, fear, anxiety with the blood of Jesus! My thoughts rob me constantly of peace and joy without my helmet! I have to learn how to wield the Sword of the Spirit because all of the battles I fight are up close and personal! So it is my responsibility to learn the Word of God And then even with all of this, I must pray always!
