Sgt. at Arms (SAA) - 1)
Sets up meeting room 2) Welcomes members and guests 2) Calls meeting to order 3) Conducts
introductions, reviews agenda, calls upon the Word of the day, Invocation, Toast, and Joke
4) Introduces the Toastmaster Thought of the Day (I) Can be either an inspired thought of the day or a thought with a religious theme in good taste recognizing the diversity of beliefs. Maximum 1 1/2 minutes. Toast (T) The wording of the toast should be brief. Lead the group to stand and raise their glass. Maximum 1 1/2 minutes. Joke (J) A tasteful start to the meeting;
not too long Speakers (S) Discuss their speech with their evaluator prior to the meeting; is well prepared; meet the manuals objectives; sticks to the time guidelines and gets his/her manual signed by the VP Ed. after the meeting. Speech Evaluators (SE) Contact the speaker prior to meeting; knows the level of the speaker to give an appropriate evaluation; do not whitewash and do not be too harsh or critical Table Topics Master (TTM) Allows everyone to speak (guests optional); keeps his comments brief to allow the participants to speak; chooses participants who have not spoken or who have minor speaking roles; all topics are of a general nature, questions may follow the theme Table Topics Evaluator (TTE) may skip the table topics evaluation if short of time; may be one pre assigned person or one on one evaluation; evaluates both the table topics master and the speakers. General Evaluator (GE) 1) introduces speech evaluators 2) asks for reports from G, Ah and Ti. In Sundial the General Evaluator does not introduce the speech evaluators but only evaluates those portions of the meeting which havent been evaluated previously, ie: he evaluates the evaluators, toastmaster, Sgt at arms, joke, invocation, toast and general comments. Timer (Ti) Times the speeches, table topics and evaluations during the meeting. Grammarian (G) Provides the toastmaster with the Word of the Day; looks for word usage, both good and bad; counts the number of times the word of the day is used Ah Counts
ums, ahs and other fillers. Asks the person with most infractions to donate 25 cents to
the pig, unless the person used the word of the day. |
