I
topped Mt. Harvard on 27 Sept, 1998 with the Acadmey Explorer Club.
It was my first peak over 14,000' (not including my drive up Pikes Peak),
and I loved it. Its summit is a lofty 14,440', making it the 3rd
highest peak in CO, and among the top peaks in all of North America.
This is a picture of Mt. Harvard
from the North. Taken by my Biology instructor, Dr. Hale.
A shot with a slow shutter speed
caputres the guys around a campfire the first night.
This is a shot of Harvard (upper
left corner) from right near our base camp.
The view of the valley we went up
on the way to the top. Our base camp is just at the end of the tree
line far below.
This is the Explorer Club atop the
peak of Mt. Harvard. It was a warm trip up, but the top was very
cold.
And of course, here I am, smiling
at 14400, with the Rockies behind me-
On our way back down we stopped
by this crystal clear alpine lake. It was at about 13,000', so it
was VERY cold....
I guess Seward and I didn't quite
care about the temperature, until after we hit the water!!
After reaching my first 14'er, I have this to say:
I HAVE ONLY
JUST BEGUN.......
