Common Name: St. Ignatius Bean

Family: Loganiaceae

Introduction.-- Ignatia is a remedy of great contradictions. The roaring in ears is better by music; the piles better when walking; sore throat feels better when swallowing; empty feeling in stomach which is not relieved by eating; cough worse more he coughs; cough on standing still during a walk; spasmodic laughter from grief; sexual desire with impotency; thirst during a chill, no thirst in the fever; the color changes in the face when at rest.

Constitution.-- Suited to nervous temperament. For women with dark hair and skin, who are sensitive and mild.

Indications.--For bad effects of anger, grief or disappointed love. Ill effects, from bad news; from vexation with reserved displeasure; from suppressed mental sufferings; of shame and mortification.

Generalities.--Tobacco is unbearable, produces or worsens headache. Oversensitiveness to pain. Pain in small, circumscribed spots. Complaints which return exactly at same hour.

Mind.--Moody. Sudden change of mental condition. Change from joy to sorrow, from laughing to weeping. Mentally and physically exhausted by long concentrated grief. Involuntary sighing. Broods in solitude over imaginary trouble. Wants to be alone. Easily disturbed by very slight emotion. The slightest fault finding or contradiction excites anger, and this makes him angry with himself. Easily offended

Head.-- Headache, as if a nail was driven out through the side, relieved by lying on it.

Mouth.-- Bites inside of cheek while talking or chewing.

Face.-- Sweat on the face on a small spot only while eating.

Rectum.-- Prolapsus ani from moderate straining at stool, stooping or lifting; worse when the stool is loose.
Haemorrhoids: Prolapsus with every stool, have to be replaced; sharp stitches shoot up the rectum; worse for hours after stool.

Stool.-- Constipation: from carriage riding; of a paralytic origin;with excessive urging, felt more in upper abdomen; with great pain, dreads to go to closet; in women who are habitual coffee drinkers.

Extremities.-- Twitchings, jerkings, even spasms of single limbs or whole body, when falling asleep.

Fever.-- Thirst only during chill. Chill better by external heat. Face red during chill. Heat without thirst.

Children.--Children get sick or have convulsions in sleep, when reprimanded, scolded, or sent to bed.

Aggravation.-- From tobacco, coffee, brandy, contact, motion, strong odors, mental emotions, grief.

Amelioration.-- Warmth, hard pressure; swallowing, walking.

Relationship.-- Incompatible: Coff., Nux., Tab.
Antidote: Puls.
