Constitution.-- Persons abused by alcohol. Adapted to rheumatic and gouty diathesis. People who are cold, and always feel cold and chilly, with lack of vital heat.
Indications.-- Rheumatism; Gout; Stings of insects; Punctured wounds by sharp instruments.
Generalities.-- Emaciation of affected parts. Pains are sticking, tearing and throbbing. Rheumatic pains are worse by motion, warmth of bed, by bed-covering and at night. Pains better only when holding feet in ice water. The wounded parts are cold to touch, but not cold subjectively to patient. Long remaining discoloration after injuries.
Face.-- Red pimples or tubercles on forehead and cheeks, which sting when touched.
Eyes.-- Haemorrhage into anterior chamber after iridectomy. Contusions of eye and lids with much extravasation of blood. Ecchymosis of lids and conjunctiva.
Extremities.-- Rheumatism or gout beginning in lower limbs and ascends. Nodosities and gouty deposits of joints painful. Acute and chronic arthritis. Affects left shoulder and right hip joint. Swelling of feet, up to knees, and of ankle with unbearable pain when walking. Swelling as from a sprain. Ball of great toe swollen and painful. Painful heels as if bruised. Intense itching of feet and ankles, worse from scratching and warmth of bed. Easy spraining of ankles and feet. Warmth of bed intolerable on account of heat and burning of limbs.
Wounds.-- Punctured wounds by sharp-pointed instruments, as caused by nails. Indicated for rat- bites, stings of insects, especially mosquitoes.
Aggravation.-- At night; from heat of bed.
Amelioration.-- From cold; putting feet in cold water.
Relationship.-- Compare: Arn., Crot. t., Ham., Bellis, Ruta in traumatism; Con. in long lasting effects of injuries.
