Exclusive Intereview with Abwhore 6/22

Zane Matthews was kind enough to answer a few questions for the Unofficial Abwhore Site. This interview is exclusive and Zane was pleased to give us some details about the upcoming cd. The band is very excited so far and they are looking forward to getting their new cd done this summer. Email Zane Matthews and tell him what you thought about this interview!

You guys have done almost 50 shows since you've been together. What are some of the most memorable shows you've done and why?

The show that I enjoyed most was in January at the Hanger in Marietta. The reason is because we drew close to 300 people and all of them were chanting our name and singing along with the songs. Not many other local acts can say that!

You mentioned before that there may be a big difference between the last cd you guys have recorded and the new one. Tell us why.

The new CD is faster. It's kind of like Iron Maiden meets Immortal in it's attack. But rest assured that it's going to be the signature Abwhore sound, but just a bit more progressive and nurtured a bit.

Of course, playing live with only one guitarist means that you achieve a tighter sound in concert, but what do you expect to do in the studio to complete the rhythms and leads? Obviously, Mike has a lot of work to do.

We have made most of the songs fit well, so we can pull it off live without too much of a difference in the studio arrangements. Obviously, it will sound a little different, but not so different that the integrity of the songs is comprimised. The only Magnum Opus planned for the CD will be "greensleeves". It will have the full choir and so much going on. So I think it will be insane! We are going to try and give Blind Gaurdian a run for their money on that one (laughs).

How many songs will be on the CD? You mentioned that it may be close to half an hour of music.

It will be around six tracks. Five new songs and a live version of "The Suffering has only Begun". The songs are also a bit longer this time around.

Are you going to stick with the whole "Jaded Lady" approach?

Lyrically, its still in that vein. Only these lyrics will be in a more story format. There will be a whorehouse story on this one, as well as story lines based upon true events that we have witnessed. The lyrics aren't as vague.

Why did your drummer cut his hair?

He was attacked by a scissor weilding maniac. It was awful, he cried for a week!

What are you listening to lately?

I'm listening to a WHOLE lot of power metal these days. Some of the bands I'm into lately are: Virgin Steel, Iron Maiden and Blind Guardian) as well as some other black metal bands. The other guys in the band listen to so many different styles of music, so it's hard to speak for everyone. I like the new Dio a whole lot too.

What does Abwhore plan on doing this summer? Promote the new CD? Tour?

We are going to finish the EP this summer and hopefully support some other bands on tour. You can never predict how things are going to go with Abwhore.

How many girls show up at your concerts? Considering your image and stage presence is rather extreme, have you had any female response?

Not any response from the female audience, the whole rock star thing and chicks is a myth. The few girls who do show up are very loyal fans, and we know almost all of them on a personal basis.

   What is the most brutal?
a) Evil Dead
b) Dawn of the Dead
c) Dead Alive
d) Texas Chainsaw Massacre I

Texas Chainsaw I is by far the most brutal in my opinion.

I think Abwhore has contributed a lot to the scene. Do you think the Atlanta metal scene is starting to improve?

Absolutely! We are proud to be a part of the scene's growth! We really want the scene to thrive, but it's going to take other bands striving for the gold ring as well.
WREK FM Atlanta is doing a great job promoting the bands in the scene. The bands really need to get out there and play, your dues are never really over, you have to keep on proving yourself and we aim to do just that. Hail!
