Las Vegas Concert Reviews Sept 6 and 7, 2002

Dateline: 09/06/02

I arrived in Las Vegas late night on Sept 6, 2002 and went over to the Las Vegas Hilton, a hotel way off the main Las Vegas Strip.  The hotel concert hall is very small and intimate when I arrived.  I took my assigned seat, which was the front row, next to where Jane was performing and I noticed that the reserved seating did not faze fans from charging towards the front of the stage.  The Go Go’s came on with replacement bass player, Dominique Davalos, who was sitting in for original bass player, Kathy Valentine due to Kathy’s pregnancy.  The show went off without a hitch.  The set started with the song, Tonite and the crowd was electric. Amongst the crowd, Duke and Joanne Kurzceski (Belinda’s parents) were cheering on.  Belinda even commented on her parents enjoying the show.   As with many go go’s shows from the past few months, the 1st single to God Bless the Go Go’s, Unforgiven, was not played but instead, the B-side, I Think I Need Sleep, which got the crowd going.  The band was sharp for most of the night, considering it was Dominique’s 1st show with the band.  The band closed out the night with Let’s Have a Party.   Belinda received $30 from the crowd that night, not bad for one night.  3 out of 5 stars.

Even though Saturday’s show had the same set list as Friday’s show, the crowd and the band turned it up to #11 on the rock and roll scale first developed by Spinal Tap in the 1980s.  The chemistry and energy of the band picked up considerably and it translated to one hell of a show.  The band was more relaxed with Dominique playing bass and she responded beautifully on all the songs played.  The band raised $1,000 on Saturday night from generous fans willing to stuff Belinda’s bra with $20s and $100s.  The other band members received their share of wealth from the crowd and proceeds went to benefit a go go’s fan in New York City suffering from cancer.   A perfect 5 for 5 on Saturday Night’s show.   See the photos below.
