Year Occurrence
1969 "It's Your Thing" from the album IT'S OUR THING reached #1 on the R&B charts and #2 on the Pop charts. All in all it sold about 5 million copies. At the 12TH Annual (1969) Grammys, they won for Best Rhythm & Blues Vocal Perf., by a Group or Duo for the hit, "It's Your Thing."
1971 "Love The One You're With", a remake of Stephen Stills' song, from the album GIVIN' IT BACK reached #3 on the R&B charts and reached the Top 20 on the Pop charts. Also, it was the Isley Brothers' first "cover" of a pop/rock tune to become a major hit.
1972 In March "Spill The Wine", a remake of War's song, made it into the R&B Top 10 and the Pop Hot 100.
Late 1972 "Pop That Thang" from the album BROTHER, BROTHER, BROTHER reached #3 on the soul chart and hit the Top 30 on the pop listing.
1973 The group officially expanded to six members. The first single "That Lady" from the album 3+3 went Gold. It reached #6 on the Hot 100.
1974 LIVE IT UP was released and reached the top of the Pop album charts. It included "Midnight Sky" which was another Top 10 R&B smash. By the way, the album went gold-plus.
1975 Brought THE HEAT IS ON which sold 1 million copies. "Fight The Power", which was the featured song, was a gold single, #1 R&B smash, and Top 5 Pop hit. It also marked the first time the word "bullshit" was used by a major black group. Originally Ronald was going to sing "nonsense", but he felt the word "bullshit" better expressed what he wanted to say. "For The Love of You", also on this album, hit #10 on the R&B chart.
1977 "The Pride" from the platinum album GO FOR YOUR GUNS reached number one.
1978 SHOWDOWN was another million-seller and "Take Me To The Next Phase" was another #1 R&B hit.
1979 Released in April, "I Wanna Be With You" another #1 R&B hit, was the lead-off track from the gold double-album WINNER TAKES ALL.
1980 GO ALL THE WAY reached platinum status.
1981 GRAND SLAM achieved gold status.
1983 "Between The Sheets" hit the #3 slot on the R&B charts. The follow-up, "Choosey Lover" was the last T-Neck single to hit the charts.
1984 Due to "musical differences" and some "personality clashes" the group broke up. Ernie, Marvin, and Chris Jasper broke off to form Isley-Jasper-Isley.
1985 Isley-Jasper-Isley's "Caravan Of Love" was a #1 R&B hit and a Top 50 single. Ronald, Rudolph, and O'Kelly sign with Warner Brothers.
1986 March 31 - O'Kelly Isley died from an unexpected heart attack.
1987 Ronald and Rudolph start working with Angela Winbush. The creative marriage (and since, actual marriage between Ronald and Angela) resulted in the gold album SMOOTH SAILIN' TONIGHT
1989 #1 R&B hit "Spend The Night".
1990 - present
