Real name: Jo Elisabeth StaffordBorn: November 12, 1920 Coalinga, California Studied singing and began performing 1935 with her sisters as a trio +++ Joined Tommy Dorsey vocal group "The Pied Pipers" in the 40's, but also recorded on her own with CAPITOL records +++ Was voted "Best Singer" in 1943 and 1945 +++ Some of her over 70 chart hits between 1944 and 1957 included "The Trolley Song" and "My Happiness" with The Pied Pipers, as well as "Everyday I love you", "Shrimp Boats" (written by her later husband, bandleader Paul Weston), "You belong to me" and "Make Love to Me!" on her own +++ She also recorded with Gordon MacRae from 1948 to 1950 and with Frankie Laine during 1951/1952 +++ |
