Studied trumpet during High School and formed his first
band at the age of 14 +++ Had his first million seller in
1952 with his own composition, "Lawdy Miss
Clawdy", originally meant to be a radio station
commercial, with Fats Domino playing piano on the record
+++ After his army service, he founded his own KRC label
(In later years, he still founded the DOUBLE-L label and
TURNTABLE records) +++ His next hit, "Just
Because", again an own composition, was released
nationwide in the US, however, on ABC-Paramount +++ Had
further hits, especially in 1959, where he scored with
"Stagger Lee", "Personality" and
"I"m Gonna Get Married", reaching chart
positions 1, 2 and 3 respectively +++ Had further hits
with moderate chart success until 1964 +++
