Born: October 21, 1940 Johannesburg, South Africa

Studied at the "Juillard School Of Music" in New York and "Wiener Staatsakademie" in Vienna, Austria +++ Played Jazz during the early 60's with his first band, The Blues Brothers +++ Signed with HIS MASTER'S VOICE and changed to Pop music in 1964 +++ Mike Hugg, Tom McGuiness, Paul Jones and Michael Vickers completed the band at that time +++ Their third record for HMV, "5-4-3-2-1" made the British charts and eventually became the signature tune for the BBC TV show "Ready, Steady, Go!" +++ Their third and fourth release for HMV, "Doo Wah Diddy Diddy" and "Sha La La", reached no. 1 and no. 2 on the British charts +++ Until 1969, the group was a permanent guest in the charts, with smashes like " Come Tomorrow", "Pretty Flamingo", Fox on the Run", "My name is Jack", "Ha! Ha! Said The Clown", "Mighty Quinn" and many more +++ The group changed constantly and at certain times included musicians such as Klaus Voormann, Mike D'Abo and Jack Bruce +++ In 1969 Mann and Mike Hugg formed the Jazz-Rock group Chapter Three, which disbanded, however, already in 1971 +++ The fourth chapter of his career resulted in the formation of Manfred Mann's Earthband +++ Further hits under that name followed, including "Joybringer", "Father of Day, Father of Night" and "Blinded By The Light" +++
