Spencer Davis Group
|
Line-Up: In 1964, Spencer Davis, a former German language teacher, and his group - originally the Spencer Davis Rhythm & Blues Quartet - decided to perform professionally in the Birmingham area +++ Their first recordings for the FONTANTA label in the UK only had little commercial success +++ Their luck changed, when they recorded a composition by reggae musician, Jackie Edwards, "Keep On Running", released in December 1965, which shot up to no. 1 of the British charts ++ Until 1967 other hits followed, also usually reaching the top spots of the British and other charts, including "Somebody Help Me", "Gimme Some Loving" and "I'm A Man" +++ Steve Winwood left the band in 1967 to form "Traffic", and a few months later also Muff Winwood and Pete York left to pursue other ideas +++ The group changed to the UNITED ARTISTS label in 1968 +++ Further personnel changes and little commercial success, however, finally led to their disbanding in 1969 +++ |
