Line-Up: In 1964, partially due to their "kinky" outfits, the then still amateur group, The Ravens, decided to change their name +++ The Kinks were born - and signed a recording contract with PYE Records the very same year +++ Their third release (the first two had flopped), "You Really Got Me", reached the top spot of the UK charts and also reached the TOP 10 in the US and other countries +++ Other million sellers in the years to come were "All Day And All Of The Night", "Tired Of Waiting For You", "Dedicated Follower Of Fashion", "Sunny Afternoon", "Dead End Street", "Waterloo Sunset", "Lola", "Apeman" and many more +++ In 1967, Dave Davies had two solo hits with "Death Of A Clown" and "Susannah's Still Alive" +++ 1969 saw John Dalton replacing Peter Quaife and piano player John Gosling joining the band +++ Also in 1969, the group released their first rock opera, "Arthur" +++ The 70's saw several personnel changes but only few hits, although the group kept touring constantly, especially in the US +++ The group resurfaced during the 80's, releasing new records and touring worldwide +++ They were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame in 1990 +++ |
