Born: October 18, 1926 or 1931 somewhere in Missouri (Wentzville or St. Louis)

+++ Formed his own combo in 1952 +++ In early 1955 he played with Muddy Waters' band in Chicago +++ Signed with CHESS records in 1955 +++ Recorded his first song "Ida Red", which was renamed to "Maybelline" +++ Further major hits included such smashes as "Thirty days", "Roll over Beethoven", "Rock and Roll music", "Johnny B. Goode" as well as dozens of other Rock'n'Roll classics +++ Had problems with the law in 1959, interrupting his career for some time, having to serve a prison term of two years for "transporting a minor over a state line for immoral purposes" +++ Resurfaced in 1964 with hits like "Nadine" and "You never can tell" +++ Had his biggest hit in 1972 with a live version of "My ding-a-ling" +++ One of the most influential R'n'R artists, especially for guitar players +++
