Real name: Dion DiMucciBorn: July 18, 1939 New York, NY+++ Debuted professionally in 1954 on the TV show Teen Club +++ Formed Dion & The Belmonts with Fred Milano, Angelo D'Aleo and Carlo Mastrangelo in 1958 +++ In April 1958 they recorded and released "I wonder why" on LAURIE records +++ Their biggest hit was the classic "Teenager in love" in April 1959 +++ In February 1959 they toured with Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper and escaped the fatal air crash after the gig in Clear Lake, Iowa, only because there were no more seats on the small plane +++ Dion broke with the Belmonts in 1960 and went solo +++ His solo hits included smashes such as "Lonely Teenager", "Runaround Sue", "The Wanderer", "Lovers who wander", "Ruby baby" and many more +++ During the mid 60s, Dion recorded, although unsuccessfully, some excellent R&B numbers, such as "Johnny B. Goode" and "Spoonful" +++ He returned to chart action in 1969 with the folky "Abraham, Martin and John" +++ |
