Line-up: Anthony "Top" Topham - lead guitar (replaced first by Eric Clapton and later by Jeff Beck) / Jimmy Page - lead guitar (as of 1966) / Keith Relf - vocals/harmonica / Chris Dreja - rhythm guitar / Paul Samwell-Smith - bass (replaced later by Chris Dreja) / Jim McCarty - drums


+++ Formed in 1963 as the Metropolitan Blues Quartet +++ Renamed to the Yardbirds, the group appeared regularly at the Crawdaddy R&B Club, where the Rolling Stones had also debuted +++ After Eric Clapton joined the group, first recordings for EMI followed +++ First chart success with "For your love" in 1965 on COLUMBIA records +++ Further hits, "Heart full of soul" and "Evil hearted you" followed +++ Eric Clapton left soon afterwards and was replaced by Jeff Beck +++ Jimmy Page joined the band when Paul Samwell-Smith retired in mid 1966 +++ During this time, the group also appeared in the cult movie "Blow Up" +++ Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page now played both lead guitar, however, only for a short time, as Jeff Beck left again in early 1967 +++ The group finally broke up in July 1968 +++
