Real name: Ernest EvansBorn: October 3, 1941 Philadelphia, Pennsylvania+++ Signed with PARKWAY records in 1959 and appeared on Dick Clark`s "American Bandstand" +++ Dick Clark's wife completed his nickname Chubby to form his stage name +++ Had a first successful record with "The Class", impersonating Rock'n'Roll stars such as Elvis +++ His cover version of "The Twist" in 1960, a Hank Ballard original from 1958, created an unexpected dance craze and was Record of the Year both in 1960 and 1961 +++ A string of other dance records followed, such as "The Pony", "The Fly" and "The Limbo" +++ Altogether Chubby had 31 charts entries on PARKWAY records until 1968 +++ Later he recorded still for BUDDAH and other labels +++ |
