SURE CONVICTION - 54 AND CHANGE
Here we have the third album from one of the best indi bands out there. This time around the music
sounds more polished and less raw. None the less, it's another batch of really good songs. Once
again most of the writing credits go to brothers Matt and Paul Liffengren. This album showcases a
new lead singer named Kurt Heinzman who's vocals have a clearer less raspy sound than Jeff Gunn
who did vocals on the last album. The only drawback here is that on some of the songs the vocals
seem to be mixed a bit too far back making them little hard to hear at times. Hopefully, this problem
will be fixed on there next album. In spite of the changes that took place this band still sounds like
Sure Conviction with the same high quality song writing and playing. The album kicks off with a
rocker called "Are you there?" This song is perhapes the most commercial with a great hook that
pulls you right in and gets you rockin' along. The next song called "I can't explain" starts off as a
rock/ballad and then escalates into another all out rocker. Good stuff! "Thru the night/More than a
feeling" has a less commercial classic rock type of sound to it.(The more than a feeling side of it has
nothing to do with the Boston song.) "Sacrafice" is a bit of a slower rocker with a sound that reminds
a little of the band BAD COMPANY. "Power of One" is this albums only all out ballad. While it's a
nice song, it doesn't quite measure up to the exellent ballands found on the "Get Ready" album. All
and all, this is another high quality album well worth the investment. If you want to check it out for
