BAREBONES

Barebones

BAREBONES: Does anybody remember Mike Lee? Well, he was the lead singer for the band BARREN CROSS. Just in case you didn't know they were one of the big Christian rockers of the 80's. Shortly after they did their last album, Mike teamed up with guitarist Kai Reiss and did a project album called Barebones. This album was made back in 1995, but has never had a great deal of attention. Well, some time ago it became available from Radrockers and I thought it sounded intresting so I picked it up. This album has a great sound with several really good rockers and a few well crafted ballads. The sound is not quite so massive as the last couple Barren Cross albums, but it still really rocks and the music is really well written. Kai Reiss proves to be a highly capable guitarist and plays with several musical styles. One song called I GOT MY HEAD STUCK IN THE CUPBOARD even sounds like punk, but is still done quite well. Radrockers compared their sound with Magdallan which I can see in some ways, but not totally. The Christian message here is not as up front and bold as we usually saw with Barren Cross, but it is certainly present and relevent. Mike likes to write songs that deal with real issues and this album is no different. However, there are at least a couple songs on here that just seem to have rather silly lyrics, but hey, nothing wrong with being a little goofy. As I stated earlier this album can be obtain from Radrockers. The current price is just $9.00
