Well, here we have the first offering by whats left of STRYPER. Back in 1991
Michael Sweet left Stryper to pursue a solo career. The rest of the band
kept it together for a couple more years and even considered trying to add
a new lead singer. (Dale Thomson of Bride was one name that was talked about as a
possible replacement) But alas it wasn't meant to be and when Robert Sweet
(Strypers drummer) decided to pursue other intrests as well, it appeared
that Stryper had finally been put to sleep. Oz Fox (guitar) and Tim Gains
(bass) decided to stick together and try to get Oz rolling on a solo career.
So they made a demo out of four songs that Oz had written, (they were
originally intended to be part of the next Stryper album) and tried to pitch
him to some record labels. Nothing came of that, but Oz and Tim kept jamming
together and were eventually joined by John Bocanegra on drums and Bobby
MacNeil on lead guitar. They decided that they liked the way this sound was
coming together and they gave themselves the name Sindizzy. Together they
made a new demo of six songs to once again shop around to record labels. In
time they decided to just put out an album on their own, and that is what we
have now. The album sounds like two different albums because that's what it
basically is. The first six songs were recorded with the full band in 1996
as that second demo I talked about. The last four songs were recorded by
just Oz and Tim back 1992 as the first demo. The newer songs have a sound
that is something of a hard rock/alternative mix with HE'S NOT DEAD and
PSALM 23 being two of the better offerings. As you hit track seven on the CD
it is obvious something has changed as the alternative influence is
completely gone. This begins the four songs that were done back in 1992. I
like all four of these songs and of course would have rathered that the whole
album had this sound, but what can ya do? Talk is heavier than ever that a
Stryper reunion may not be that far away, so there is no telling how many
future offerings there will be from this band. For now though, you can look
for this album through distributers of independant Christian rock such as
Radrockers..
