MICHAEL SWEET - TRUTH
This album is by and large a bit heavier than his previous album called "REAL", but it is also much more of an experimental project. Mike did this on his own without trying to please a record company or producers, and the result is certainly different than his past work. I can tell you now that there is very little here that will make you think of STRYPER, but there are some good rockers. TRUTH and ACHILLES HEEL stand out as two of the better ones. LIFT MY HEAD is a pretty good pop rock song, but I wish he had done it without the vocal effects. This man has one of the best sets of pipes on the planet, so why he chose to mess with that by making it sound like he's singing through a cheap, busted microphone is something I can't understand. RAIN is a pretty good rock ballad, and DISTRACTED is another good rocker. The last song on the album called STONE is a very sombre ballad that sounds like it could have been a Psalm. All in all, I like this album, though it will probably take some time to really grow on me. NEW NOTE: This album will soon be re-released by Restless Records with four new songs and some changes to some of the existing songs. Two songs from the original independant release have been removed. Once I have access to the new release I will begin work on an updated review.
