GUARDIAN - The Yellow and Black Attack is Back
Here we have what has amounted to the last english offering from the band Guardian, at least for the
forseeable future. The album released independantly in 1998 brings the band full circle. Their first
album called FIRST WATCH was produced by STRYPER lead guitarist OZ FOX and this, their last
album is a tribute to that band. Stryper released THE YELLOW AND BLACK ATTACK in 1984
and broke open a door for Christian glam metal, thus leading the way for many bands which were to
come. One of those bands was Guardian who went on to be very successful in their own right. This
album is covered very well and with a lot of respect to the original songs. The biggest differences you
will notice are that Tony has taken the liberty to add a bit more flash to some of the guitar work, which
is a nice way of setting these songs apart, so that we don't just seem to be listening to the same old
thing. Not that there was anything wrong with that old thing; no, not at all, but this is still a nice dash of
spice for these old songs. The other major difference is That Jamie's vocals are much more raspy and
not as high as those of Michael Sweet. This limitation does keep him from hitting some of the vocal
heights that Mike could, but he still does a good job. This EP has six songs just as the original did and
the artwork is basically the same, except that the faces of the Guardian members have been
superimposed onto the bodies of the Stryper members. All in all this is a good cover and I highly
recommend it to anyone who is a fan of either or both of these bands. It is available from the Guardian
web site as well as Radrockers. Links to both places can be found right here on this website.
