A Website Dedicated To The Smiths and Morrissey
The Smiths, undoubtedly, are the best band to have spawned from the 80's. The utter desperation, sincerity, and honesty of Steven Patrick Morrissey's lyrics spoke to, and still continues to speak to, generations of lonely and depressed youth in need of someone who will understand them. Morrissey is that person they could count on the most. No, The Smiths are not depressing. They are an unprecedented and simply brilliant mixture of catchy upbeat tunes (which, yes, can get brooding at times) and Morrissey's beautiful voice. The "man behind the music" is Johnny Marr. His fabulous guitar skills, backed with Andy Rourke (bass) and Mike Joyce (drums) breathe life into those wonderful words. Ah, but sadly, The Smiths only graced us with their presence for 5 years, from 1982 to 1987. But even though they may have been forgotten by the media, they will never be forgotten by their fans.
Morrissey still prevails, however, with his solo career which goes on to this day. He still croons to the world with his deeply emotional lyrics. Although he may not have the same intensity as he had with The Smiths, his solo music is still a joy to listen to.
With this website, I hope to capture the essence of The Smiths as they were, and of Morrissey as he has been since The Smiths. I hope you will enjoy it!! :)
