The formation of Zoil!

( Written in Steph's P.O.V )

1996: Zoil formed as a three piece back in late 1996,  this being Marama, Stephanie and Jennie. We all met up on October 11 now an annual party celebration. At the start of 1997 Jennie gave the bass up for the guitar and this began the 'bass search.'

1997: Our first basset was our friend Pascale. One of our first performances was at school. This being Assemblies and a lunch time concerts. Also that year we entered in our first 'smokefree rockquest.' We made it to the regionals but didn’t play as two members went overseas days later. At the end of that year Pascal left. Sarah took her place. And from here Zoil grew.

1998: We entered the rockquest again, and performed assemblies and we were still the only band at school. We entered with D’arcy and got to the Regionals, we were placed second in the D.A.R.E Lyric Awards. winning $175. Our song was dedicated to the late D arcy Clay, it was about losing yourself and the feeling of getting left behind by a sudden death. In July we performed for a sound and lighting course as they needed a band to practise with. We got a cheap recording from this. Finding it hard to get places to play at, we just played in our garages until one day in December we played at Fakie Rock, the skate park in Glenflield, with 3 other bands.

1999: We are pre forming in the rockquest and sadly this may be our last. We are organising along with Richard Raven and other bands Joda Kaast, Abattoir, Plan 9 and the Milisha a concert on June 18th, called 'Strange Daze' in Browns Bay, just something for kids to do. We are interested in making a recording, finding time is the problem. We are looking at the Depot or Earwigs studios. We played at school in April for Assembly along with Doxie. From that we were asked to play at a party which was in may.

2000: ....who knows what the future will hold.... Money, Fame, Gigs and Guys “Girls kick ass!!”
