Meet Jessica Mion!

She'll Tell you Why the BSBs will "Never Break Your Heart!"

(Teen Beat, January 1999)

Fifteen-year-old Jessica Mion was one of the lucky ladies that appeared in the Backstreet Boys video for the sensational song, "I'll Never Break Your Heart." She was doubly lucky because she spent two whole days filming wth Nick Carter in his cartoon room! We called Jessica and asked her to let us know what it was really like being that close to Nick, and the rest of the BSBs, as well as all of the ins and outs of a Backstreet Boys video shoot. Jessica was more than happy to talk with us, so if your curiosity is getting the better of you, read on!

What was the audition process for the video like?
It's funny because when I auditioned, I had to stand in front of the camera, and for a couple of minutes I had to just go through all these emotions. The casting director was leading me through all these emotions, and it was really hard. I walked out of there thinking, "Oh, I didn't get it. There no way I could have gotten it." A couple of days later while I was on shoot for a modeling job, my agent called and said that I was on first call for the "I'll Never Break Your Heart" video and I didn't believe her. I was like, "What are you talking about? I did horribly!" But I guess I didn't do as poorly as I thought.

Were you really excited or were you really nervous when you found out you had gotten the job?
I was really excited and then when I go on the set, I started to get more nervous. But when it actually came down to the shooting, the nervousness passed and I was just really excited.

Were you a big Backstreet Boys fan before the shoot?
I'd heard the Backstreet Boys' music before, but I never placed the name with the song until I auditioned. I wasn't a huge fan before, but since then I've become a fan.

Did the Boys play any part in the casting?
Yeah, they got to approve the girls after they were picked.

Then it must have been a big compliment that you were chosen!
It was a huge compliment.

What was the atmosphere like on the set?
Very busy. There were about six sets so there was always somebody taking care of something on each set. There were a lot of people around and someone was always coming up to me and saying, "Do you want something to drink? Do you want something to eat? Do you need anything?" They were really nice and the guys were really friendly. They'd come up and talk to me. It was relaxed, there was a lot of waiting, but time passed really quickly because people were always talking to you.

How long did it take to film the video?
It took two days, total. I only shot on the first day. There was actually supposed to be another scene where each of the girl was kind of floating in a harness and looking sad becasue we had just broken up with our boyfriends and stuff like that. We didn't get to film that because we ran out of time, and the Backstreet Boys had to leave because Brian was having his heart surgery the next week. So, we didn't get to shoot the second scene but I was there for two days and the guys shot for two days.

Did anything funny or unusual happen on the set?
Yes. First of all when I got on the set with Nick, as I walking up [to the set], I was looking down because there was a step I had to step down, and I wasn't paying attention to where I was walking. I totally didn't see the camera in front of me and walked smack into it with my head! It was really embarassing but it loosened me up because I was till nervous at the point. I was laughing so hard that I got over my nervousness.

Where they concerned about you?
Nick ran up saying, "Are you OK? Are you OK?" And I was like, "Yeah, I'm fine, but I'm afraid I broke the camera!"

Do you have a favorite Backstreet Boy?
The one I got to speak to the most was A.J., and he was just hilarious. My mom and I talked to him a lot. He's probably my favorite just because his personality was really entertaining. They were all really nice and Nick was really friendly but I think A.J. was the most talkative. He's probably my favorite.

Would you like to be in videos again?
I'd love to. It was a lot of fun and I'm not really sure if I care what group it's for, I'd just like to be in another video again. It would be cool to do another Backstreet Boys one.
