NIMROD!!!!!
Hitchin a Ride Video Clip!!

THE NAME:

Green Day's new album will be called Nimrod. Billie explains why: "There's this guy named Nimrod in the Bible who tried to fool God in Babylon, or something like that," Armstrong said. "It fits. We're kind of moronic."

THE COVER:

The cover will feature the picture at the top of this page along with a yellow circle with the word "Green Day" in black writting.

HOW IT WILL SOUND:

Billie says the album is "all very much us, but some stuff is definitely a departure. There's some stuff on there that's gonna make people go, 'This doesn't sound like Green Day', there's some stuff that people probably aren't gonna like too much, because we did stuff with acoustic guitars, and strings and horns. We worked really hard on it," he said. "It's gonna be hard seeing it get put on sale, and put on the rack. I'm a little too attached to it right now. It's like this giant, marinated steak that we've tenderized, and put all kinds of stuff on it," he added. "We're waiting for the lions to chomp on it. We'll see what happens." Green Day spokesman Jim Baltutis adds, "You'll hear horns, maybe some strings, but you'll definitely have close to the full 72 minutes possible on a CD," I heard the track "Uptight" the other day and it's just classic Green Day". Baltutis says that the material on the album is a tad "more mature" than past Green Day albums. But don't worry, kids, it's still cool. The slightly older perspective apparently has more to do with some personal stuff that the Green Day guys have been going through, rather than any weird desire to change their musical style. A spokesperson for the band confirms that both Tre Cool and Mike Dirnt have marriages on the rocks, and that having serious relationships has sobered all three members considerably. The price you pay for growing older.

THE RELEASE DATE:

The album will be released on October 14, 1997 in most countries although it will be released on October 13, 1997 in the UK.

THE FIRST SINGLE:

The song "Hitchin' A Ride" has been released and is awsome. Here's Billie's opinion: "It's got a swing feel to it," Armstrong said. "It's very dynamic. Petra's (Petra Haden, played violin) great because she's been playing with a rock band, so she knew how to play to what we were doing, that sort of rock dynamic. The song is really heavy, sort of sexy. It's a song about drinking, about falling off the wagon." The single will be released on September 23 and contains the b-sides, "Sick" and "Espionage"

The album will probably contain 18 or 19 tracks, out of the 30 recorded. Here are some confirmed and rumoured song titles:

THE NO DOUBT CONNECTION:

This was sent to me by greenday.com owner Jason Miller; "I've been doing the touring thing with No Doubt for a week (they're good friends of mine and I was bored)... Gabe and Steve (trombone/keyboards and trumpet, respectively) from No Doubt played on two songs on the new Green Day record.  I don't remember the names, but one of them is sorta skacore and the other one is punk with some polka horn lines... In any event, Billie's voice seems to be a bit higher."

THE BANDS OPINION:

Somebody recently told me they saw Billie on MTV saying that the new album will not be liked by people who only like their recent efforts like "Dookie" and "Insomniac" but it will be loved by people who liked their albums from Lookout Records, "39/Smooth" and "Kerplunk". Tre Cool had the following to say about the new album:

"We're not breaking up, but it's cool that people are talking about us. It's good for publicity," Tre' said, regarding a rumor that the band might be disbanding. "In fact, we have about 30 songs ready to record. By the time we get into a studio, we'll probably have 50. We made Insomniac a little weirder to help us avoid the sophomore slump and so that people don't think we're all commercial. But the new songs are catchy, catchy catchy!"
