September 67 opened this show for eels. They did not get a warm welcome! The audience really sucked and started talking all the way through the September 67 set.
This was a real pity, becouse September 67 definately makes songs that should be heard. Check out their cd! I can highly recommend it!
Then the eels came on. They surprised me by opening with the Rolling Stones classic DEAD FLOWERS. To my surprise the audience hardly moved. A lot of people were
still hanging around the bar and a lot of noise was made. This did not contribute to the mood of the band. At one point the talking got so annoying that E made a remark during GUEST LIST;
"I guess the people talking must be on the guestlist..... the people who paid want to listen!"
His remark did not seem to have any effect, they kept on talking. The band really tried the best they could and this resulted in the best eels gig I ever saw. They tried so hard to get the attention of the audience,
while only a few people were really paying attention.
It makes you wonder why all these people even bought a ticket, they were uninterested from the beginning! When the show was over everybody hurried up the stairs to se the band that would perform the aftershow.
When only about 50% of the audience was still inside, suddenly the band came back on to finish their set! This really surprised me and the rest of the audience.
Then we thought the show was really over, wanted to pack our things and go home after this amazing show....and they are back again! doing Fingertips pt.III for the second time this evening. We decided to hang around somewhat longer and YES!
They came back for a fifth encore! This was so great! Truly the best eels show I ever saw!
When a roadie came up the stage saying: "Ladies and gentleman, the eels have left the building", we knew it was over.
We went home very satisfied and determined to see any other show that eels would do in Holland.
radio/tv: a 30 minute eels special was filmed in Amsterdam on april 12th. It was broadcast by VPRO TV Loladamusica.
bootleg: one incomplete audience recording exists from this show.
