A much better performance than the night before. This is my first time to see EELS and I'm blown away by it. I had bought the cd a few months earlier and I wondered how they were going to
perform those songs live. All songs were transformed into cool live versions that are (in my opinion) actually better that the cd versions.
Also the audience was really great.
The band started (to my surprise) with the Prince cover IF I WAS YOUR GIRLFRIEND and the audience immediately were into EELS! Never before have I seen an
opening act being received so good! After the show most people agreed that the EELS set was actually better than the one they came for; Screaming Trees.
The thing that surprised me the most were the two covers they played. IF I WAS YOUR GIRLFRIEND (Prince) and DAMN, I WISH I WAS YOUR LOVER (Sophie B. Hawkins) really sounded as if it were EELS
songs. Especially the Prince song was transformed into an Eels song and it did not sound a bit like the original! Most people did not even hear it was a Prince song and that's really cool!
This show was really great and as a new EELS FAN I left the Paradiso that night.....
radio/TV: The entire show was broadcast on KRO radio Leidsekade Live. No TV recordings were made.
