Sonny Bono

of Sonny & Cher

Date of Birth: February 16, 1935
Date of Death: January 5, 1998

Cause of Death: Crashed into a tree whilst snow skiing near Lake Tahoe, along the Nevada - California state line, age 62.

Final Resting Place: Desert Memorial Park, Cathedral City, California (near Palm Springs).

Claim to Fame: Sonny's first claim to fame was writing the hit 'Needles & Pins' for the Searchers in the mid 60's.  He later teamed up with Cher to form Sonny and Cher.   They had a huge hit in 1965 with 'I Got You Babe.'   From there they had a string of hits and later had their own variety television show.  At one stage they were the most recognised couple in America.   The marriage broke up in the seventies.   They had one child, their daughter Chastity.   After the split up both went onto bigger and better things.   Cher continued to have sporadic music hits and later got into acting, scoring a Best Actress Oscar for Moonstruck.   Sonny meanwhile got into politics and after becoming the mayor of Palm Springs, California become a U.S. Congressman.    Check out 'I Got You Babe' and 'The Beat Goes On' to hear Sonny at his peak.
