The Marley photos were taken at Nine Mile, Jamaica. Nine Mile is an area [rather than a populated village] about 50 miles north of Kingston. This is where Bob Marley was born, and, where he now rests. The white building surrounded by the fence is Bob's mausoleum. The smaller building to it's right is the house Bob and his mother Cedella lived in prior to moving to Kingston when Bob was a youth.

The area is very isolated very difficult to get to. Until Bob was buried there, the area was rarely visited by tourists. Indeed all the amenities pictured [the tall fence, the mausoleum and the brick wall and fence, the building in the left distance, the large parking area in the foreground, etc.] except for the home have appeared since Bob's return. Now, as can be imagined, a large tourist trade has evolved as visitors from the world to Jamaica make their way Nine Mile.

Behind the two structures is a large stage. Annually, on Bob Marley Day, Feb 6th, a huge celebration takes place on the site. Reggae performers jam throughtout the night to the international assemblege that gathers for the celebration.
