This recording was taken at the Phoenix Festival 1993, and showcases the Manics in full, furious flight against a crowd they claim to despise. Gobshite Nicky is strangely quiet, but James Dean Bradfield is in fine form, twisting and ad-libbing like a madman in a brilliant display of barely-supressed disgust. "For all of you that came down to Stratford Town tonight, this one's called 'Shakespeares Burning'! Yaka Yaka!" he proclaims, and launches into 'Slash 'N Burn', slyly amending the lyrics to "chained to economy, now fashion has been.." and urging the crowd "God is safer sex, RESPONSIBLE! DO IT! WALK ON LAND-MINES!"

Perhaps the most obvious mileage comes from "Drug Drug Druggy", which starts with JDB's ad-lib "So much fun to be had in my tent" before spiralling into a personal vendetta against every member of the audience, culminating in a spine-chilling exclamation of "OFF WITH THEIR HEADS!" punches in, followed straight after by "Need sensation... LIKE MY SNOT!" for no discernable reason.

"This one's called 'Rose's in the hAspital' growls JDB, and starts up said song with a cry of "Soul train!". Then comes perhaps the coolest Manics moment ever when, with only the drums pumping and occasional feedback, James shrieks out the final verse in a mood between control and chaos; "Roses in the hospital, toenablemetoplayinfrontofacrowd that I depiiiise,
Roses in the ho.. ha HA HA HA HA HA HA HA BURN!!!"
. As we comprehend the utter fucking genius of it, JDB yells "David Bowie! Go on, sue me!".

Then follows the closers of 'Motown Junk', in which James twists his tongue around the last line, a Who-inspired I was born with a plastic spoon in my mouth, and 'You love us' with new lyrics "You've gone off us!", and it's more than enough.
