D'Arcy to rejoin Pumpkins?

Smashing Pumpkins

DECEMBER 2 — Would D'Arcy Wretzky ever rejoin the Smashing Pumpkins, the superstar alternative band she co-founded in the early nineties with Billy Corgan and James Iha? "No comment," she tells Chicago magazine's December issue, laughing cryptically.

Calling her exit from the band "long overdue," Wretzky is, as previously reported, attempting to launch a film career with a role in the upcoming film Peaces Of Ronnie (starring Mickey Rourke and Blondie's Debbie Harry), and has moved to Los Angeles.

How does she view the end of her tenure in the Pumpkins? She asks Chicago interviewer Steve Knopper about the longest relationship he'd ever had and how he felt at the end of it. "It's like being married to three other people. Imagine being on a tour bus with them, living with them and working with them," she says. "People you didn't pick. It's like people you didn't want to date. Except for James, of course," referring to her brief relationship with Iha. "I did date James."

The Pumpkins have moved on without Wretzky, announcing a world tour in support of the last album she recorded with the band, MACHINA (The Machines Of God), due out Feb. 29, and hiring former Hole bassist Melissa Auf Der Maur in her place. The Pumpkins tour kicks off on Jan. 7 in Stockholm, Sweden.

The new Smashing Pumpkins concept album, MACHINA/the machines of God, will be released worldwide on February 29th, 2000.

The album was produced by Flood and Billy Corgan, the team behind the worldwide double CD Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.

The Smashing Pumpkins - Billy Corgan, James Iha, Jimmy Chamberlin, and new bass player Melissa Auf Der Maur, will spend the next 18 months touring extensively throughout the world beginning with theatre venues in Europe on January 7th, 2000.
