A manager at a company I worked for many years ago had
a large coffee mug with a fake bottom (kind of like
the root beer mugs that look like they hold much more
than they actually do) he would turn it upside down,
and fill the bottom compartment with BBs. Covering
the bottom with a piece of cardboard, he would
carefully turn the mug over and place it on his desk,
and slide the cardboard out. He would then fill the
top compartment with coffee from another cup. Why?

He distrusted everyone, and used this mug to test his
employees' honesty. He would call an employee in for
a meeting, telling them that their discretion and
trustworthiness were of the utmost importance for the
project at hand. He would then leave his office for a
minute under false pretense, having left the mug placed
strategically over an official personnel document about
a co-worker at the same level, but the part that noted
the individual's salary was covered with the mug. The
too-curious individual who did a little upside-down
reading on the bosses desk while he was out was in for
a deskfull of BB's if he lifted the mug to sneak a
look, and of course the boss would storm in as soon as
he heard the BB's tumbling about. I never worked for
this guy, but I was told he entrapped at least two
of his staff into spilling the BB's.
