Chapter 12
Star Trek: The Savage Generation

"As you both know, this all started after my shooting on Neith. Little things happened with both of you, and to me that I kept private. I didn't know ... well ... I don't know, exactly why this has all been happening to me, but I'm dealing with it all a little bit better now."

"Darren, honey, go slow. We're not in any rush here." Colby said.

"I know, but I need to get this out. I want ... I need ... for you both to understand what's been going on with me - its not fair to keep you in the dark like I have been doing."

"Okay, Daz - we're not going anywhere" Daniel assured him.

"I guess I'll start with this whole conspiracy thing that's been going on. Yesterday morning, I was on my way to the rehearsal from sickbay, and I approached the turbolift. The doors opened to reveal a person standing there. I couldn't see anything but it's eyes, but it's gaze was quite memorable, let me assure you. When it saw me, this person shut the doors in front of my face. I opened them again, and although the turbolift had never left the stop, it was empty. Now, I was just with the Captain and Geordi LaForge in Engineering, and they were able to use the ship's internal sensor scans to trace a transporter beam from that turbolift to here" he glanced at Colby "to our quarters."

"This person was in our quarters?" Colby asked - confusion covered her face.

"Unfortunately, yes. Daniel, you remember the message that you read?" Daniel nodded. "The person put that into my viewer when they were here - that's why I couldn't trace where it had come from."

"Wait a minute, what message?" Colby asked. Darren loaded it up and allowed Colby to read it. "But Darren, these are all lyrics from your songs - what does it mean?"

"Well, to make a long story short, it's both a warning and threat."

"What! Darren, I don't like the way this is going. You were already shot once this week - I don't want anything else happening!" Colby got up and started pacing, becoming more and more worried and frantic with each step.

"Whoa - calm down." Darren got up and put his arms around her. "I'm going to be fine - don't worry about it." They stood like that for a moment, and then he released her and they sat down together. "Geordi has been able to trace this transporter beam - if it is used anywhere on the ship again we'll know about it. If, and probably when, it is used, security will know where to find this person - the conspirator."

"But why are they threatening you? You said the message was a threat of some kind." Daniel spoke up.

"Basically, I'm a witness. I saw this person on the turbolift - and during the concert I made eye contact with him again. Like I said, its not the sort of look that I could easily forget. By seeing this person, a man actually, without the capes on, I can now identify him as a Pu'v. There should have been no Pu'v aboard the ship yesterday, so we are fairly certain that this is the man that Starfleet has been looking for. It's just a matter of time until he's caught and turned over to the authorities."

"Aren't you worried that he's going to try to come after you?" Colby asked.

"Not particularly. Even if he does, security will be here before he'll have a chance to do anything. Don't worry, I'm going to be fine." Darren put his arm around her and gave her a reassuring squeeze.

"Darren, I know this isn't about the conspiracy or anything, but when we were down on Ma'at, you were talking to the captain about some strange memories that had resurfaced. When he left, you said to me that you felt like you didn't belong here anymore. Have you sorted out any of those thoughts yet? Darren let his arm drop from around Colby and put his head in his hands. He felt Colby put her hand on his back and he slowly sat up again.

"There's still more." Daniel and Colby glanced at each other, wondering what else there could possibly be.
