June 19, 1998 ~ enjoy, but please don't take the pics!
This experience begins typically as many others do: An outdoor concert in July at Six Flags Theme Park, hot, crazy, but darn good. My close bud, Allie, and I had been N Sync fans forever (beginning with MMC) and got 7th row seats to the concert. It was about 95 degrees even at night, and after jumping around and yelling during the concert we found ourselves to be terribly thirsty. The park was closing, so concessions were unavailable. We took our time leaving the park and drove to a nearby gas station. As we pulled up, two dark vans did so as well. Allison was fishing for loose change and I stared at the vans when the door opened and...Chris stepped out!! My eyes doubled in size and in an effort to control my excitement, I said to Allison through clinched teeth "Oh my gosh! It's Chris!" We took a deep breath, smoothed out our clothes and attmepted to waltz into the Texaco gas station as nonchalantly as possible. As we stepped inside, we said "hi" to them, but anxiously looked around, as if we were doing something wrong. Their bodyguard, House, said it was fine and we could talk to them. I immediately turned around and said, "Hey Lance." He smiled and said, "Hi." As he fixed his processed nachos, he looked up and said, "Gotta have the nachos!" Allie and I told him how good they did and how great they looked. We then asked if we could get a picture with him, but House could not take it for us. So it was just Lance and me: (no complaints)

Allison began asking where JC was. We found him on the candy aisle, singing to himself and shaking a package of Junior Mints to an unheard rhythm. She timidly approached him and he encouraged her by saying, "Don't be shy, sweetie." He introduced himself to us (duh!) and vice versa. We complimented him as well, and he thanked us but apologized for looking so "rough" because it was uncomfortably hot. JC had Tostidos tucked under his arm along with queso-style dip, Nestea Iced Tea, and the Junior Mints. He said he felt sick because they had just rode Mr. Freeze (a super intense roller coaster) 5 times in a row. I sarcastically asked, "So, you are getting food?" He laughed. Allison requested a picture with him and he gladly agreed: (doesn't look too rough to me!)

In the meantime, Lance and Joey had joined our pow wow and we made conversation about college, upcoming concerts, how they liked Dallas, etc. Chris was pretty much in and out of the store, and Justin meandered about in intense conversation on his cell phone. When the guys got in line to check out we asked for their autographs. JC said, "Absolutely........NOT!" Allie's and my face must have dropped 7 stories because Joey and JC got these apolgetic looks on their faces. They laughed and smiled and said they were just kidding. As I ran to the car, Allie stood inside and observed JC's people skills. A young boy, about five years old, walked by and JC said, "Hey cool man!" Allie managed to snag a quick shot of Joey before he gave us his autograph: (what a cutie!)

As they left, we got personalized autographs from each one of them and engaged in some more small talk. As Joey left, he winked and walked out with his Funyuns close at hand. We mainly talked to JC about MMC and he told us that he still hangs out with Tony and Dale and had done so recently. We mentioned that Dale is from our hometown and JC said, "Plano, right?" That was cool how he knew our town! He left, but came back in saying, "I'm sorry, sweetie," and shook our hands goodbye. I walked to the van to see if Justin and Chris would autograph our paper, because they weren't in the store for very long. They gladly signed and wished us good luck. I graciously thanked them and wished them a safe trip. THAT is our 20 minutes with the ever-famous N Sync!
