Hey, we're THE CYNICS, an original band from the New Orleans area. We're five fairly ordinary guys, with fairly ordinary lives, with the not so ordinary calling of musicians. We do things a bit differently. Groove is our style, a blend of equal parts rock, blues and funk seasoned with a pinch of jazz and reggae for good measure. Our goal is to avoid musical boundaries, have a good time and put on a great show.
Shawn handles the guitar duties, combining the raw blues style of Stevie Ray with the chicken srcatch rhythms of righteous old school funk. When cranked to the limit, you can hear echoes of three generations of great guitarist.
I'm Scott. I play bass. Just recently I was transplanted from the Indianapolis Jazz/Funk scene, and it's great to be down here. I cut my teeth on punk, but I've played everything from oldies to bebop, but I've found that I like our brand of groove the best. I'm the glue that makes us all stick. I serve the song, whether it needs simple roots or flat out lead bass, and I have a great time.
Our sax player Jesse is the latest addition to the Narrow Door family. Like his hero Grover Washington, he knows what it takes to turn a good song into a great one. Whether its brushing in a melody here, shading a harmony there or soloing like a maniac, Jesse does what the song needs. His melodic touch adds a hypnotic feel and extra dimension to our music.
<--line1-->Like I said, we're a bit different. We move, we groove, and everybody has a great time. We're hard to classify, and we love that. The lights go down, the volume comes up, and we pour everything that we have into the music. We'll do it 'til we die.
