Stacy's Review for the Atlanta Hanson Concert!!
The Coca-Cola Lakewood Ampitheatre in Atlanta, Georgia was filled with over 19,000 screaming Hanson fans on the night of July 5, 1998. The show was excellent, and I'm sure all the girls in the venue would agree!
The concert started at about 7:15, but thousands arrived early hoping to catch a glimpse of Hanson. They did just that. Zac Hanson repeatedly peeked around the curtains of the stage just to excite fans. When the opening band, Admiral Twin started, Zac ran onstage and danced, then returned behind the curtains.
Admiral Twin was a great opening band. They played lots of songs from the album they recently released. Although everyone loved them, we were definetely waiting for Isaac, Taylor and Zac to show up onstage. Admiral Twin only played for about half an hour. After them, roadies set up the stage for Hanson's arrival.
Around 8:15 we heard the opening of "Gimme Some Lovin". Suddenly, the curtain that we thought would raise dropped. There were Isaac, Taylor, and Zac, along with three backup musicians. Isaac was wearing shiny silver pants and a navy blue velour shirt over a black T-shirt. Taylor had on a striped green shirt over a white T-shirt and jeans, and Zac was wearing a red shirt (long sleeves!) and black pants.
They played four songs and left again. The roadies returned and changed the set to make it look like a garage. Hanson finally came back. I don't remember the order of the songs they played, but they did every one from M.O.N. except "Yearbook", "Lucy", and "Madeline." They also played songs from 3 Car Garage, including "River", "Soldier", "Stories", and "Sometimes". They did four oldies: "Money", "Gimme Some Lovin", "Shake Your Tail Feathers" and "Summertime Blues." Isaac also performed a song entitled "More Than Anything" from their Boomerang album. They performed a song entitled "Ever Lonely" that will be on the upcoming album.
Some highlights from the show: After Isaac's solo performance, Taylor and Zac returned with water ballons and a slingshot. They shot the ballons over the entire ampitheatre. Once, Taylor took over Zac's drums. He was a very talented drummer. When Zac took the drums back, he played with glow-in-the-dark drum sticks! They left once again, and everyone thought the concert was over. Then we heard Zac say, "You want us back?" Everyone screamed, and they came back with super-soaker water guns and sang three
more songs, including an a capella version of "Weird."
The show ended at about 10:00. I was sad to see Ike, Tay and Zac go, but I know that I will remember the concert for the rest of my life. I traveled six hours to see them, and had bad seats, but it was definetely worth it. I only wish I could do it again!
