CS LIGHTING AND SOUND...OFFICIAL BIOGRAPHY
CS Lighting and Sound was founded in 1986 when high school friends Bill Sekelsky and Frank Cinkole decided they would put together a sound system for the fledging rock band that Frank was forming. They began amidst humble surroundings and some borrowed equipment, and have grown to today feature two complete sound and lighting systems, with enough left over for half of a third! When run together, the sound system can play to a crowd of over 5000, and feature 150 plus lights and a follow spotlight! The equipment completely fills their 24-ft. truck, with extra gear kept in storage.
Over the past 12 years, Bill and Frank have worked regularly with such Cleveland area groups as Tangent (1987-89), Rapture (1990-92), Quest (1988-89), Presto (1992-present), Block Logic (1996-present), and countless others. In addition to the club circuit, they have been regulars on several festival grounds providing live production for the various entertainment acts. These include the Vermilion Festival of the Fish (since 1990), WJW TV and Dick Goddard's Woolly Bear Festival (since 1990), Lorain Port Awareness and Sunshine Festivals (since 1996), and the huge E. 185th St. Festival (since 1994). Frank estimates the total number of shows performed since 1986 to be nearing 1000!!!
CS began their association with Stagepass in 1992, and is the official provider of sound and lights for this now legendary Cleveland band. As singer Kelly Derrick puts it, "They're the brains of the operation. Like the AMEX card, we don't leave home without 'em!". With the exception of one or two conflicting dates per year, Stagepass doesn't leave home without Bill and Frank at the controls. "They treat us as members of the band" says Frank, "we work together like clockwork". Bill's only comment, "I wish they would learn some new songs, and oh yeah, I wish John would turn down that #^!%*#%#* guitar!!!!
Bill Sekelsky has earned himself the reputation of being one of the best soundmen in Cleveland. His no nonsense approach to his craft can be heard even in the most difficult to play rooms. Musicians find comfort in knowing Bill is behind the mixer not only for his sound abilities, but his expert troubleshooting and repair skills. Bill takes care of the equipment maintenance and design, and is generally known as a mechanical and electronics wizard. His day gig naturally takes advantage of these skills as well. He is the foreman at Euclid Products Inc. in Willoughby, and also does some design work. Bill's wife of 3 years is Janet, and they have a 6 mo. old daughter, Jessica. He also likes to spend time with his computer, much to Janet's dismay!
Frank Cinkole's contribution to the live shows is in the area of lighting controls and the stage monitor mix. He also keeps an eye out for trouble, and is in full charge of booking the dates and any public relations work that need be done. Frank also has contributed to the equipment design, but is the first to admit that when it goes past the woodworking stages, it's better left in Bill's hands! In addition to production work, Frank is also a veteran drummer, having just reached the 20-year mark since his first lesson. He has drummed in several groups, and is currently performing in Presto, a Rush tribute band that he co-founded in 1992 (Bill running sound, of course!) He can occasionally be found filling in for Kevin Morgan in Stage Pass, or for Joe Blatnick in Pieces of Eight, another well known Cleveland band! His knowledge of the drums can also come in handy when working on the production side. As Kevin Morgan puts it in his bio, "having Frank around is like instant drum tech...". What's really happening is that Frank is showing Kevin (and others) what all those screws that hold the drumheads on do when you turn them one way or the other! All kidding aside, Frank does take a lot of pride in whatever he does, no matter how big or small! During the day, he works as an account rep. for MetLife out of the Independence, Ohio office. Frank is the father of 7-year-old twin girls, Kayleigh and Gemma, however has never been married.
When a substitute on the crew is needed, or a double gig night is at hand, CS calls on Chris McDonald and Bob Turick (both of who play in Presto, by the way!). The big festivals could also not be done without their capable assistance. Chris can often be found mixing Stage Pass (to the delight of John, as Chris is also a guitar player!). Thanks guys! We would be lost without you!!!!!
Special thanks also to the members of Pieces of Eight, who were the inspiration that launched CS lighting and sound all those years ago. Thanks guys! It's all your fault!!!
