Chapter6

The events of the past few days flooded through Chloe's mind as she prepared herself for one of the best nights of the summer. She and Stacie had taken over the top floor of Stacie's house getting ready for the concert that night. They'd been having BSB withdrawals since they couldn't see or be seen with the guys until the concert tonight. "STACIE! HELP!" Chloe yelled as she got her hair stuck in the zipper of the blouse that she was trying on.

"Girl! How do you get your hair stuck?" Stacie asked prying her hair out.

"I don't know. But I'm definitely NOT wearing this." They rummaged around some more until Chloe had settled on one of the first things she'd tried on, jeans, her Docs, and a white shirt. Stacie was wearing a blue-ish green shirt, her favorite pair of worn just right jeans, and her tennis shoes. They were on their way to dinner when their parents insisted upon a photo shoot in which they took at least 80 pictures until the girls simply would not smile at all anymore. They'd just picked up Chloe's fixed car from the shop and they were on their way to the restaurant. They walked in and sat down minutes before the guys arrived with a whole group of security. "Hey guys. How's it goin?" AJ asked as the girls got up to hug everybody. They slid into the booth with Nick and Kevin on either side and they had a lovely dinner. Towards the end of the dinner, Kevin had to get up, he said, to go take care of the check. He came back with a big grin on his face and looked proud of something he'd just done. "What are you so happy about?" Chloe asked smiling. She knew they were going to sing to Stacie at the concert, but didn't know what on Earth Kev was so happy about right now. She didn't have to wait too long. A couple of minutes later, a bunch of employees came over carrying a big cake that said, "Happy Birthday Stacie! We love ya. ~The Backstreet Boys."

"Ahh! Oh my gosh! I thought y'all had forgotten! I can't believe this!" said Stacie smiling a big smile.

"You thought we'd forget about YOU? No, of course not!" Nick said with a smile. "We'd forget about Chloe, but not you." he said laughing. Chloe reached over and play slapped him on the arm. They had their dessert cake and had it put in a box to take with them on the bus. After dinner and with a lot of begging the bodyguards agreed to let Chloe drive Kevin and Nick behind the bus. "We missed you guys! And we are so excited about the show tonight. This is going to be the best birthday I've ever had." Stacie said hugging Nick in the parking lot. They followed the bus out and within 5 minutes of being at the venue they noticed slowly that there were more people following them then there had been. "Oh no, what am I gonna do? Do the other security people know my car and that I have you two?" Chloe was kind of getting worried.

"You won't have any problem. If they look in here and see us then ya know they'll have to let ya through." Kevin said halfway joking. They did get backstage just fine and the girls went ahead and went in there too since technically speaking their seats were in the back. Once inside the place was NuTz! The girls were made comfortable and left on a couch for awhile while the guys tended to all their business. "So were you excited?" Chloe asked while they were waiting.

"Yes! Oh my gosh! This has started out to be the best night! My parents and yours of course had our little thing this morning, but I thought that was it! Why didn't you tell me?!?" Stacie asked, trying to not laugh so she'd sound mad. They talked a little bit more and then sat around waiting for someone to come back and see them. About 8:15 the guys came back and showed them where they'd be sitting. "Wow listen to all the people. Is it sold out?" Chloe asked.

"Yeah, they said it sold out in like 15 minutes or something. HEY, we have a surprise for y'all later okay?" Howie told them as they went to take their places.

"Another one?!?" asked Stacie as he walked away.

"Yup! Be ready!" he said smiling. Stacie gave Nick a kiss on the cheek for luck and Chloe gave Kevin a hug. They watched them walk away and then sat down with their perfect view. "So what do you think the surprise is?" Chloe asked.

Stacie shrugged. "I dunno. I can't wait to find out though." As she said that the lights went off, the screaming definitely increased and a biiiig voice came over the loud speaker and said, "Ladies and Gentlemen, get ready, cause Back... Street's... BACK." It said slowly getting quieter and quieter. With that Brian kicked off what was sure to be a great performance by a very gifted and very talented band...

Both girls were dancing and singing along through most of the concert. Towards the middle of the concert the guys began slowing things down, doing some of their slower songs. "Okay, guys, quiet down a little," said Kevin, talking to the crowd of very hyped up people. "We're going to do a song right now and we'd like our two special guests tonight, Chloe and Stacie, to come out here." The two looked at each other, shocked. Somehow they made it up onto the stage. On the stage were two stools and all the guys were on either sides of them. Howie gestured for the two to sit on each of the stools. Chloe sat on the one closest to Kevin and Stacie sat on the one closest to Nick. The guys smiled at them and signaled the music to start. Both girls turned to look at each other as they realized what song it was. A.J. began, "From the first day that I saw your smiling face, I never doubted we would be, together forever..." It was "I'll Never Break You Heart" Kevin and Nick had kneeled down in front of the two and the others were behind and beside them. It was all Chloe could do to keep from busting into tears right then and there, looking at Kevin and having him sing that song to her.Stacie was also having that problem, but not as bad as Chloe. The girls in the crowd were shooting them death looks, but neither girl on stage cared. At the end of the song, Nick and Kevin kissed "their girl" on the cheek. Stacie was also having that problem, but not as bad as Chloe. The girls in the crowd were shooting them death looks, but neither girl cared. At the end of the song, Nick and Kevin kissed "their girl" on the cheek. "Now," began A.J. "We need you guys out there to help us out a bit. Today, is young Stacie's birthday. How old are you Stacie?" Stacie was so nervous.

"I'm 19 A.J." she said and he put his arm around her.

"Well, we all know what that means, now everyone together now!" Howie said as he started 'Happy Birthday'. Stacie was about as red as a watermelon. Chloe was cracking up and messing up the words. They were escorted off stage, and the concert proceeded as normal. Backstage, neither of the two could calm down. "Oh my god!" exclaimed Stacie. "Can you believe what just happened?!? I cannot believe they did that! Oh, I'm never going to forget this." She looked on the verge of fainting from pure happiness. Chloe looked quite similar. The rest of the concert was a blur for both. The next thing either knew, the guys were saying goodbye and goodnight to the crowd and walking backstage to where the girls were. "So how'd ya guys like the show?" asked Brian, giving his usual sweet smile.

"It was wonderful," the two both said at the same time. All the guys laughed. Kevin came over and hugged Chloe. "Was it really good?" he asked.

"Absolutely," answered Chloe "What else could it have been?" Kevin shrugged.

"I don't know," After some discussion, they decided to chill out at the arena for a while, at least until most of the mob had left.

Chloe and Stacie were both still recovering from their special moment when the guys' manager came back to have a 'chat' with them. "WHAT ON EARTH WERE YOU PEOPLE THINKING!?!?!" he asked yelling.

"What are you talking about we do this every show have two people up and serenade them." Brian said pointingly.

"But you never say 'Special guests'. And since when do we sing 'Happy Birthday'? Do you know how many disappointed girls there are gonna be and how many rumors are gonna be started because of this?" Their manager said making the girls feel incredibly guilty.

"You know what, who cares? We love our fans but we've been doing this for a long time and if we want to form a relationship with someone we're going too. We shouldn't have to hide it. Let them make something up let them spread it around. We've been at this for a grand total of 8 years. That's longer than a lot of other groups like us in the past." Kevin said actually defending their actions.

"I think Kev's right. No one should expect us to stay single forever. I mean I've been doing this since I was 13, which didn't leave much time for girlfriends. I didn't get to have a normal teenage time like the rest of the guys. I've actually found someone who respects me for ME. Not because I'm Nick Carter the Backstreet Boy, but because I'm Nickolas Gene Carter the person. That's pretty hard to do. As far as singing 'Happy Birthday', that's something you do for your friends. We sang on Kev's birthday, we sang close to A.J.'s and y'all sang the day before mine. I don't see how this was any different." Nick said suddenly letting his grown up maturity show. Their manger stood there dumbfounded.

"Well, you guys obviously see nothing wrong with this. And it's not affecting the group because you all seem to love these two girls but I want to make sure you all are aware of the consequences of this. It could blow up. Most of the girls have been ya'lls fans over the years and watched each of you grow. Ya'll have had a hell of a run. I know I sound like this is the end but I'm just a little worried any girls ya'll have otherwise ever gone out with haven't ever been in public with ya'll like this. You are very smart gentlemen. And I wish you all the happiness and continued success you can get." With that said he walked away. Chloe couldn't help but feel like because she loved someone that would hurt his career. Maybe Kevin is a little old for me. I mean I am 19. He is 13 years older than I am, but my parents said he was great. Ohhhh why is this happening? Chloe thought to herself. Stacie was wrestling with her own problems. She knew that she'd never met another guy like Nick. He was great in every way possible. She loved him with all her heart and she was ready to take this big step. But could she handle the consequences and the backlash they'd get at first. If only MTV News didn't exist! "STACE!" Nick was trying to get her attention.

"Oh, yeah?"

"Do you wanna go swimming? We had arranged that we were gonna go swimming and have a little birthday party at this waterpark after hours." Nick said smiling.

"Oh yea sure that sounds great. Will y'all give me and Chloe time to go get our suits?"

"Yup, but I'll miss you." He said smiling his killer 80-watt smile.

"Chloe? Are you okay?" Kevin asked her. He looked concerned; she had a new look on her face he hadn't seen before.

"Oh, yea sweetie, I'm fine. Come sit by me though for a minute." Everyone was kinda sitting somewhere chillin' and everything but Chloe had something very important to tell Kevin. "Yea, what it is it?" He asked sitting down.

"Well, with everything that's happened lately, I haven't really been able to talk to you much this evening and well, I just wanted to ask you something. I really have come to love you so much and I just wanted to make sure that with every other thing there is to worry about in this relationship, you aren't worried about our age difference are you? Because it doesn't bother me but I was just thinking that we hadn't really addressed it since we met." Kevin smiled and laughed.

"Is that what you were thinking about? That's what put that worried look on your face? Oh babe, I wouldn't care if there were 15 years difference. The law would," Chloe laughed "But I wouldn't. I love you. Not your age, not your IQ not your car. YOU. Chloe Marie James." Kevin looked her deep in her eyes and forgetting that their were 15 other people in the room he gently kissed her and sealed his message with a kiss...
