Toevallig kwam mij ter ore dat jullie veteranenproject tegenwoordig probeert om jong te blijven door jullie geneuzel in de ruimte nu ook op electronische onze breinen in te jagen. Nu heb ik al wat langer moeite met datgene wat jullie zo treffend destroika
punk noemen, maar wat eiegnlijk neerkomt op een slecht doorvoede modegril, die in haar glorietijd (ik schat zo'n zes maanden in 1988...) eigenlijk al achterhaald was. Niets gaat mij meer ter harte dan een trio bejaarde anarchisten die, kwijlend en trillen
van ouderdom en slechte narcotica, hun opstandige ding in leven trachten te houden en ik wil jullie langs deze onsympathieke weg op het hart drukken dat er, op een handjevol tragische hobbylozen in Duitschland na, niemand meer is die belang heeft bij de
aagzuuropwekkende klanken van jullie dweilorkest.
In het echte leven, jullie misschien bekend uit publicaties als Pravda, Stern en der Stolze Obersturmbahnführer, is punk, as we knew it, al een tijdje begraven. Het graf, passend gesitueerd naast oude corifeeën als het Hippiedom, Disco en Piet Bambergen,
s te bezoeken en eventueel te bedansen, al betwijfel ik dat jullie je rottende karkassen überhaupt nog in beweging krijgen zonder inwendig te gebruiken stimulerende middelen. Mochten er spontaan plannen ontstaan om jullie oude vriend op te zoeken op zijn
aatste rustplaats, zou ik dat graag weten om jullie rolstoelen te regelen.
Ik wil jullie de kans niet onthouden om de punk nogmaals herhaaldelijk in de rug te steken, iets wat jullie op dagelijkse basis met jullie dopey teksten en hardcore-huppelmentaliteit trachten te doen. Dat jullie Jurassic Ensemble blijft lachen terwijl de
jzerbeslagen laars in het immer lachende gezicht van jullie oude vriend terechtkomst, is dan wel weer bewonderenswaardig te noemen. De visioenen van bruine overhemden, brandende boeken en decoratief geschoren hoofden en bovenlippen vind ik echter minder o
te lachen.
Op de valreep van de nieuwe eeuw lijkt het me niet minder dan passend dat jullie de conclusie gaan trekken die de rest van de wereld in een oude vergeten lade heeft gelegd. Het is tijd om de instrumenten aan de wilgen te hangen. Of er daarna nog genoeg re
enen zijn om ons verder lastig te vallen met jullie aanwezigheid, laat ik aan jullie zelf over. Bedenk echter wel dat een herdenkingsconcert voor de aan een collectieve overdosis overleden punkdinosaurussen van Brezhnev beter klinkt als jullie daadwerkeli
