An Update from Sixpence None the Richer

well, i suppose it's high time some type of explanation was given concerning the current affairs of sixpence none the richer. there are many rumors going around which we would like to address, and even though you might not like the truth behind them, at least you will know the TRUTH.

the tour: first, we sincerely apologize to those who were planning to attend the remaining shows we had scheduled, and to the promoters who had booked them. last-minute cancellations are not our normal course of action(and we certainly do not condone it), but with our present state and the severe lack of planning and bad circumstances of the first half of the tour, we felt it was the best thing to do to preserve our health, sanity, and relationships. we did not cancel the tour due to personal differences. to give a full account of the poor booking and planning of this tour and the circumstances arising from these conditions would be too lenghty for this post. in brief, we can only say that we commited to a tour with two five minute walk bands that, when we were given the final routing, saw that it was to cover over 15,000 miles in one month. we severely questioned the safety and feasibilty of this amount of traveling, but our doubts were unheeded, and in order to be true to our commitment we decided to try and make the best of it. we were met with insanely long drives, no promoters at some of the shows, vans breaking down. in fact, some days we did not even eat a decent meal or sleep in a bed. we are ready to give a full account of the reasons embodying our decision to leave the tour for those who are interested. and if you don't want to take our word for it, speak to model engine(black eyed sceva)-they withdrew as well. on a side note we must say that dryve is continuing the tour, and if you haven't heard them live you should take the time out to do so. they are a great band and are some of the coolest people you'll ever meet. we consider them great friends.

j.j.: as many of you know, j.j. has left the band to pursue a new endeavour with the group plumb. there is not much to say other than the parting was completely amicable and that we wish him the best. we really enjoyed the years together with him, musically and as a friend, and we will miss him dearly. we will be auditioning new bass players in a timely manner.

that good ol' record company: i wish i could spill my guts on this one, but we're not allowed to talk about this one too much. in short, we will never work with rex if we don't have to. our lawyers are continuing to try and free us from an unethical contract that we believe is void due to rex's acquisition by platinum entertainment and their subsequent bankruptcy. when we are free we will release a new record. please pray that we'll make it that long....

we will be available for further discussion on these matters via the website. we cherish your continuing support and prayers as we try to wade through these issues. thanks for listening.

sincerely,
sixpence none the richer
