In Utero Sessions

In March 1993 Nirvana went to the Pachyderm Studios in Minnesota to begin work on In Utero. They signed into the studio as 'The Simon Ritchie Project' (Simon Ritchie was Sid Vicious' real name) and began working with producer Steve Albini. Over the following 3-4 weeks they recorded a pack of songs for the new album, going under the working title 'I hate myself and want to die':

These were the songs that later ended up on In Utero. In addition, they recorded 3 or 4 more songs:

I hate myself... was released on the 'Beavis & Butthead Experience' compilation, and as a b-side on the Pennyroyal Tea single in early '94. Marigold was the b-side for the Heart-Shaped Box single, and Moist Vagina can be found on the All Apologies/Rape Me single. The new Nevermind book states that Butch Vig says that the version of Sappy on the 'No Alternative' AIDS benefit compilation was recorded at the Nevermind sessions, but it has also been said to have been recorded during these sessions, so...

In May they went into the studio, again, this time with former REM producer Scott Litt. They remixed Pennyroyal Tea (for the forthcoming single) and All Apologies, and some background vocals were added to Heart-Shaped Box.

This is all the work that was done on In Utero. Nothing known is left unreleased from these sessions, but one never knows...the next sessions would be the last in Kurt's life, and they're the next section.
