There is no fear in love. Perfect love drives away fear, for fear has to do with punishment; those who fear do not know perfect love.

FORGIVENESS OF SINS?

Jesus said, " Father, forgive them for they do not know what they do." ( Luke 23 :34 )

Jesus died on the cross for the forgiveness of sins. And that sin originated from the sin committed by one man. That is ADAM.

So Christ is the mediator of a new covenant or testament. His death made atonement for the sins committed under the old testament, and the promise is handed over to all who are called to the everlasting inheritance.

However, would a society like Singapore, for example, as a whole put into practice "forgiving one another" as doctrinated by Christians across the globe?

Would Chief Justice Yong Pung How have upped sentences or completely forgiven the criminals and set them free after an appeal was made?

Would ex-Chief Justice Wee Chong Jin not had sentenced certain "sinners" to be hanged and let them free because of an act of sinning?

Should there be no man-made laws to protect society and at the same time punishment to be meted out to sinners alike and even consider rehabilitation programs?

Think about it, would you........ then tell me what exactly does preaching "forgiveness and love one another" that is practical in our society in our time to this day means.

We know that the Law is good, as long as it serves its purpose. The Law is not for the righteous, but for the lawless and for the wicked and sinful, for those who do not respect God and religion, for those who kill their parents, for murderers, for those who indulge in unlawful sex and homosexuality, for kidnappers and exploiters, for liars and perjurers and for all that is contrary to sound doctrine.

See that no one deceives you with philosophy or any hollow discourse; these are merely human doctrines not inspired by Christ but by the wisdom of this world. Jesus is the head of all cosmic power and authority, and in Him you have everything.

Set your mind on the things that are above not on earthly things !

The end of all things is near; live wisely and spend evening time praying. Above all, let your love for one another be sincere, for love covers a multitude of sins.

Jesus will be coming soon, bringing with Him the reward He will pay to each one according to his / her deeds.

DREAMS

The foolish are deceived by vain and false hopes; dreams give them wings.

To rely on dreams is like grasping a shadow or chasing the wind. What you see in dreams are only reflections : a person sees his own image.

What clean thing can come from what is unclean? What truth comes from what is false? Divinations, omens and dreams are empty like the fantasies of a woman in labor.

Unless they come as messengers of the Most High, do not pay attention to them. For dreams have led many people astray. Those who hoped in them have fallen.

Not so the Law, which never fails but comes true. Wisdom from the truthful lips of God is the highest truth.

THE DOCTOR (not necessarily the psychiatrists)

Give due honor to the doctor, for you need him and God himself established him.

Healing, in fact, comes from the Most High; the gift of healing comes from the Sovereign.

The doctor’s expertise gives him prestige and wins for him the admiration of the powerful.

The Lord created the medicinal herbs which grow on the earth, and these a sensible person will not despise.

Remember that he used a simple wooden rod to purify water and so make known his power to everyone.

It is he who gives knowledge to men so that his power be glorified; the doctor uses it to heal and comfort, the chemist to make his mixtures. In that way the Lord’s work never ceases and well-being prevails on the earth.

When you are sick do not be anxious; pray to the Lord to heal you. Give up bad habits, keep your hands unsoiled, and purify your heart from all sin.

Offer incense and a memorial gift of fine flour and rich offerings according to your means. Then consult the doctor; remember that he was established by the Lord, so do not disregard him - you need him. There are cases when good health depends on doctors. They, too, will pray to the Most High to grant them success in healing in order to save life.

May he who sins before his Maker, fall into the hands of the doctor !

FALSE TEACHERS

Warn certain persons not to teach false doctrine or to concern themselves with fables and endless genealogies. These give rise to discussions rather than promoting a better service of God through faith. The aim of our warning is love which comes from a pure mind, a good conscience and sincere faith.

These people forbid marriage and condemn the use of certain foods which God created for those who know the truth, and which the believers receive with thanksgiving. Everything created by God is good, and all food is lawful; nothing is to be rejected if we receive it with thanksgiving, for it is blessed with the word of God and prayer, and made holy.

If you explain these things to the brothers and sisters, you will prove to be a good servant of Christ Jesus, nourished by the teachings of faith and the sound doctrine which you have followed. Reject irreligious fables and old wives' tales. Train yourself in godliness. Physical trainning is of limited value; godliness, instead, is useful in every way, holding promise for the present life and for the life to come. Here you have a sure doctrine you can trust. We toil and endure because we trust in living God, the Saviour of all, especially of those who believe.

Just as there have been false prophets in the midst of the people of Israel, so will there be false teachers among you. They will introduce harmful sects and, by denying the Master who saved them, they will bring upon themselves sudden perdition. Many, nonetheless, will imitate their vices and because of them the Way of Truth will be dicredited. They will take advantage of you with deceitful words for the sake of money. But their condemnation has already begun and their destruction awaits them.

So, then, the Lord knows how to free from trial those who serve him and keep the wicked for punishment on the Day of Judgement.

With their boastful and empty discourses, they encourage the lust and impure desire of those who have just freed themselves from the common errors.

There are, however, some points in them that are difficult to understand, which people who are ignorant and immature in their faith twist, as they do with the rest of the Sciptures, to their own destruction.

The Word of God maintains the present heavens and earth until their destruction by fire; they are kept for the Day of Judgement when the godless will be destroyed.

We wait for a new heaven and a new earth in which justice reigns, according to God's promise.

True Wisdom

If you consider yourself wise and learned, show it by your good life and let your actions, in all humility, be an example for others. But if your heart is full of bitter jealousy and ambition, do not try to show off; that would be covering up the truth; this kind of wisdom does not come from above but from the world and it is earthly and devilish. Wherever there is jealousy and ambition, you will also find discord and all that is evil. Instead, the wisdom which comes from above is pure and peace-loving. Persons with this wisdom show understanding and listen to advise; they are full of compassion and good works; they are impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow peace reap a harvest of justice.

Preach the Word

All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, refuting error, for correcting and training in Christian life. Through Scripture the man of God is made expert and thoroughly equipped for every good work.

There are, however, some points in them that are difficult to understand, which people who are ignorant and immature in their faith twist, as they do with the rest of the Sciptures, to their own destruction.

In the presence of God and Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by the hope I have of his coming and his kingdom, I urge you to preach the Word, in season and out of season, reproving, rebuking or advising, always with patience and providing instruction. For the time is coming when people will no longer endure sound doctrine but will be so eager to hear what is new, that they will never have enough teachers after their own liking. And they will abondon the truth to hear fables. So be prudent, do not mind your labour, give yourself to your work as an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.

Do not take part in useless conversations, alien to the faith. This leads to a greater lack of faith.

Avoid stupid and senseless discussions, since such are the cause of misunderstanding.

Love of money

Whoever teaches in some other way, not following the sound teaching of our Lord Christ Jesus and true religious instruction, is conceited and understands nothing. This one is crazy about controversies and discussions which result in envy, insults, blows and constant arguments between people of depraved minds and far from the truth. For them, religion is merely for financial gain.

In reality, religion is a treasure if we are content with what we have. We brought nothing into the world and we will leave it with nothing. Let us then be content with having food and clothing. Those who strive to be rich fall into temptations and traps. A lot of foolish and harmful ambitions plunge them into ruin and destruction. Indeed, the love of money is the root of every evil. Because of this greed, some have wandered away from the faith, bringing on themselves afflictions of every kind.

But you, man of God, shun all this. Strive to be holy and godly. Live in faith and love, with endurance and gentleness. Fight the good fight of faith and win everlasting life to which you were called when you made the good profession of faith in the presence of so many witnesses.

Command the rich of this world not to be arrogant or to put their trust in the uncertainty of wealth. Let them rather trust in God who generously gives us all we need for our happiness. Let them do good, be rich in good deeds and be generous; let them share with others. In this way, they shall heap up a sound capital for the future and gain true life.

Avoid useless and profane words, as well as discussions arising from false knowledge. Some have lost the faith in accepting such knowledge.

Difficult times

Be quite sure that there will be difficult times in the last days. People will become selfish, lovers of money, boastful, conceited, gossips, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy. They will be unable to love and forgive; they will be slanderers, without self-control, cruel, enemies of good, traitors, shameless, full of pride, more in love with pleasure than with God. They will keep the appearance of piety, while rejecting its demands. Keep away from such people.

Of the same kind are those who enter houses and captivate weak women, full of sins, swayed by all kinds of passion, who are always learning but never grasping knowledge of the truth. These people of corrupt mind and false faith oppose the truth just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses. Yet they may not go very far, for their folly will be clear to all, as in the case of those two.

All who want to serve God in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, while evil persons and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.

"The Mentally Sick-Mentalist" vs "The Schizophrenics"

Schizophrenia, is it a general label for a number of psychotic disorders with various cognitive, emotional and behavioural manifestations? Although there are various distinguishable schizophrenias which display differing etiologies and have distinguishable prognoses, certain features are taken as hallmarks of all, that is: a pattern of psychotic features including thought disturbances, bizarre delusions, hallucinations ( usually auditory ), disturbed sense of self and a loss of reality testing. Mentalist like Deddy Corbuzier from Indonesia, Gerard Senehi from New York, Shaun Tan from Malaysia and Christopher Caldwell, among others, who bent keys, made cigarettes fly through the air, glass stems bend and stunned the audience by correctly predicting the day’s events & especially, (i would like to emphasize here) read the mind of another person. These mentalist, as they are called, are entertainers who spellbound their audiences as they perform mind reading acts which cites aloud what the other person is thinking and is accurate in his citings . The mentalists makes the cigarette levitate! It's a defiance of the laws of physics! Gravity is a word that does not exist in this man's vocabulary. At one end of the spectrum, there is Uri Geller, the famous seventies mentalist who grandiosely claimed (and still does) that it was his own supernatural gifts that enabled him to bend spoons; at the other, there is James Randi, an accomplished magician who made a name for himself by exposing the hokum of Geller and his ilk. (In 1996, he even offered $1 million to anyone who could demonstrate evidence of the paranormal in a setting he controlled. The prize is still unclaimed.)

The mentalists loves reading other peoples' minds... But don't people get scared? Some get terrified, it's scary to think that someone can read your mind. Mind Reading is for everyone interested in covering the entire spectrum of human emotions recognising emotional expression and intent in others. It enables the user to study emotions and to learn the meanings of facial expressions and tone of voice, among other things. It may sound like an achievement of some sort to be able to read one's mind and that of others. But in reality, (to me), mind reading (used for evil purposes) is an invasion of one's dignity and privacy as used by many throughout centuries in harming others to inflict disturbing emotional annoyance, irritability and manifesting violence in their victims throughout the day for the rest of his or her lifetime resulting in the term - schizophrenia.

If you work in one of the most cynical professions, spending the bulk of your days with crusty, hard-nosed realists who smirk at anything vaguely sentimental or, gasp, "spiritual." We deal with cold, hard facts, and nothing pleases us more than to catch someone in a lie.

I want people to be realistic about what I think because some people are overly skeptical, while others over-believe and leave no room for common sense. I would rather people be somewhere in-between.

By mastering (somehow) reading another mind's thoughts, one is capable of knowing the entire history of the victim over the years and also concluding or predicting his/her emotional and behavioural manifestations in whatever circumstances, past, present or future. In these scenarios, I can conclude that they are capable of controlling and/or creating havoc for its victims knowing what his/her negative emotional outcome will be and his/her fears and angers are.

So how do one overcome this situation that has become a negative influence impacted in our lives? This mind reading "talent" that has greatly affected our emotions and intentions from the darts of the evil and wicked ones. It is my firm believe that there are only 2 major types of people. Those who do good in nature and those who are evil in their intent & belong to the Evil One. Either you go to Hell or Heaven on The Day of The Lord. Period. No bargainings. No halfways.

With the help of the heavenly hosts and your own ability level, you may be able to be the one controlling the mentalists' emotional thoughts & behavioural manifestations instead of being manipulated by others.

Do turn around and get a grip of your own emotions and behaviours and also be in control of your attackers' emotions & behaviours for they are your lifetime enemies.

Be brave and you can fight this all alone as no one, I repeat, no one except yoursef can help you overcome your traumas with the exception of the heavenly hosts.

My introduction to this group--pt. 1

I once spent seven years locked in an 8'x 15' cell in a sanatorium. I didn't realize that it was seven years until after I had been released and they told me. It's very easy to lose track of time when you are isolated in a cell and have very little outside stimuli.

A nurse visited me most every day, but they rarely spoke. They only watched me for a few minutes and left. If I spoke to them, they would write things down in a notebook and leave. There were always two or sometimes four large orderlies accompanying them. I was told it was for security purposes. I had a window that I could look out of, but I was not allowed visitors, books, writing instruments, cigarettes, or personal items.

The psychiatrist would visit me periodically, seeming to be about once a week, but I can't be sure of that. He or she would ask me banal questions, take down notes, and leave. They rarely answered any questions that I posed.

My meals were served to me through a narrow slot in the door on a plastic tray. There were two meals per day. I could never get enough to eat. I was never allowed utensils and ate with my hands. I had no shower or bath, but I did have a toilet and basin. Periodically, the nurse would bring me a cake of soap, a cloth, and a towel so that I could bath from the basin under the close scrutiny of the orderlies. I was never allowed to retain possession of those items when not in use.

From my window, I could see a field leading out toward a small coppice. Sometimes I could see animals crossing the meadow into or out of the woods. Looking out of the window was one of my favorite pastimes.

I could sometimes hear muted activity on the other side of my door, but I was never allowed to interact or see any of the other patients. There were occasions when I was taken from my room for treatments, but I was always restrained and hooded so that I could not see anything.

My bed was comfortable, but I was not allowed bed sheets. I was not allowed clothing of any kind, either. I was told that it was a safety issue. On occasion, I would be restrained for days at a time in a device commonly referred to as a straightjacket. It is very difficult to take care of bodily wastes and effect personal hygiene when restrained in one of these devices. They did this when they claimed I was being "disruptive." They did not like it when I attempted to strangle or pummel one of the staff that came into my cell. This was often followed with a regimen of "zombifying" poisons that they described as medicinal. I didn't care for those poisons being injected into my body. The staff treated me quite poorly and did not seem concerned for my welfare. I took great pride from the fact that I once permanently blinded an orderly as I tore his eyes from his sockets and crushed them in my hands. I felt certain that my actions would secure a transfer to another facility, perhaps less harsh, but no transfer ever occurred. They only transferred me to a much smaller room that lacked any kind of light whatsoever. The room with no light did not contain a toilet or a basin, either. My food was passed to me in a bucket through some kind of shelf that prevented light from penetrating into the cell. I did not like that room very much, but I made several close friends there. I have no idea how long they kept me there, but it seemed like a year or more passed before they transferred me back to a room with light and a window.

The winters were cold outside because ice would form on the exterior of my window, but my room was always warm. It was sometimes too warm during the summer months, but I guess it was because the air conditioning units functioned less effectively than the boilers.

During my time in the sanatorium, I would occupy my time by looking out the window, sleeping, and doing exercise. I would walk or jog around the perimeter of the room, I would do hundreds of press-ups a day, and hundreds of sit-ups. I would do thousands of jumping jacks, hundreds of deep knee bends, and would jump rope without a rope until I fell over from exhaustion.

I would have conversations with voices in my head to keep me company due to the lack of outside stimuli. I made many wonderful companions during those years and I still keep in touch with many of those voices.

The first book I read after I was released was "The Prince" by Machiavelli. Soon after, I read "The Art of War" by Sun Tzu. I also took a nice hot bath and ate boiled cabbage and fried rice. I enjoy a nice cup of tea. Only candles light my room. I have 27 candles lit from morning until night. I enjoy looking at the disembodied shadows of my friends as they dance the shadow dance on the walls of my room. I like to stay in my room and pray and plot against my enemies.

I think I would make a great tyrant. A modern day Caligula.

"Schizophrenic" Emotions

It's about mind control effecting in a varied emotional manifestations of the elitism's strong instinctive feelings.

Firstly, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your postings and would also like to apologise for the delay in replying as I was very busy last week and had only read your emails yesterday.

Well, yes. I am a Malaysian and am currently suffering from schizophrenia.

In my findings, I've discovered that yes to a certain extent there must be some scientific explanation of the cause of schizophrenia being the chemical imbalances of the brain. Thus the need for medical treatment that is medications.

In view of the intensity of these ritualistic tormentations (but not for long as I strongly believe that there is eternal salvation at the end of this world which is coming soon!), of course, I do not deny that once a person with schizophrenia is blinded by extreme rage, it can be dangerous and detrimental to both oneself and others around him/her.

This outrageous anger is usually caused by the instigated, troublemakers "voices" heard taking turns to persecute and provoke anger and frustrations amongst their victims by hurling insults, hateful, degrading and fearful word. Thus, you would normally see those untreated schizophrenics "scolding" at an unseen persons which is not surprising.

If you take on the perception of an uncorrupted mind of a 2 year old toddler, then you may very well succeed in overcoming any obstacles that are put forward by your visible enemies. However, with the persecutory enemies we, schizophrenics are facing are your so called "delusional" oppressors causing tormentations within your soul. That's quite different. But the principle still applies. It takes Divine mercy, compassion and love to be able to tolerate beyond our human power to be able to resist any counter-attacks toward our continous vicious cycle of oppressors.

But considering that I am a victim of such a circumstances as schizophrenia, I want to have more insight into the illness and transcend into a higher understanding of self and to be able to belong to a certain community group whereby we can share our faith interchangeably with similar relations and be of any service in collaboration with others.

Its good to know that you could share your worst fears with someone like your phychiatrist, for example. But I know what its like to be given totally unhelpful advises which even I could have suggested myself yet to no effect. In short, ineffective responses to our dillemmas. What I was looking for was answers that will make a difference and also bold statements that would knock some sense into me and let me gain greater insight into my illness!

Another Perception on Schizophrenia:

Patients tend to be violent, angered and making signs with their hands and fingers because, in my perception, they are "interacting" or rather, they are emotionally disturbed and provoked by these "voices" that they want to punish, lash out at and take revenge upon these hallucinations and that's why they are scolding back at unseen persons and wanting to beat up the persons emitting those voices that only they can hear.

I believe that these voices which only the victim could hear is being manipulated by certain groups or individuals using the spiritual realm which is undoubtedly in existence, (only that we are ignorant about it) to promote harm and utmost emotional distress upon their victims.

I think that those dirty scums emiting those "voices" should be punished and be institutionalized, deeply medicated as they are the ones who are the real troublemakers... only that we don't really know who the identities of these scums are so we can't prosecute them and punish them justifiably.

THERE IS JUSTICE AFTER ALL!!!

In the Book of Quran, Surat Al Infitar, I've read that:

Verse 14: While the wicked shall be in Hell;
15: Roasting therein on the Day of Judgement;
16: Nor shall they ever absent from it.
17: And how would you know what the Day of Judgement is?
18: Again, how would you know what the Day of Judgement is?
19: It is the Day when no soul can be of any help to any other soul, and when GOD Reigns Supreme.

In Surat As Sajdah, Verse 13:

If We had so willed, We could have given every soul its guidance (but every soul is entrusted with free will to chose between the Right Way or deviation), But I ordained: "I shall fill Hell with Jinn and mankind".

Also, in the Bible, Revelation Chapter 14 Verses 9 to 11, it says that:

"Whoever worships the beast and its image and receives the mark on his forehead or on his hand will himself drink God's wine, the wine of his fury, which he has poured at full strength into the cup of his anger! All who do this will be tormented in fire and sulfur before the holy angels and the Lamb. The smoke of the fire that torments them goes up forever and ever. There is no relief day or night for those who worship the beast and its image, for anyone who has the mark of its name."

Verses 12: This calls for endurance on the part of God's people, those who obey God's commandments and are faithful to Jesus.

I am a part-time counsellor and I have seen a remarkable improvement in the patient's responses to voices tomenting and attacking throughout the day through daily prayer, counter-attacks and scripture qouting of Bible, Quran verses . There has been significant improvements in the tolerance of these countless and endless attacks from whom I believe are manipulated by certain groups or individuals of living persons using spiritualism which I do not have access to this knowledge. However, these attacks are resulting in a delusional people trapped in a world of sensory overload, and an overload of electrode brain transmissions, or rather, an overload of emotional anger, turmoil and confusion, ranting about government conspiracies, Satan or some other malevolent force controlling their lives. Thus, it RESULTS into a brain disorder and a chemical imbalances of the brain.

And therefore, also, the need to reduce these symptoms of this illness with some form of low dosage of medication and ultimately, counselling in the understanding and coping of this severe mental disorder.

I heard from one victim's friend that one quarter of all patients at IMH (Institute of Mental Health, Singapore) have fully recovered and do not need any medication anymore.

Is there anyone out there who have fully recovered and do not need medication? If so, please speak up.

Any expert medical advise on statistics and research findings or experiments carried out and the possible causes that resulted in a complete recovery with no hallucinations or delusions whatsoever?

Off-duty CNB KILLS mental patient !

This is totally outrageous! The Cnb fella should have been charged for murdering the schizophrenic who although did not take his follow-up medication the past four months, is still a citizen of the country with equal rights as to a human being and do not deserve to be treated as some degradable entity. I strongly encourage you people out there who might be in the same boat to get the law in order for people like us and not let law-enforcement officers take the law into their own hands and determine who should die and who should not!!!

Temple stay may help people with mental disorders

A SHORT stay in a temple or place of worship can actually improve your mental health, a study has shown.

For example, researchers in India found that a six-week stay at a Hindu temple can produce the same improvement in people with severe psychiatric disorders as a month-long course of standard medications.

According to science journal New Scientist, a team led by Mr Ramanathan Raguram of the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences in Bangalore studied all 31 people who came for help and stayed at the Muthuswamy temple between June and August 2000.

The patients were evaluated by a trained psychiatrist. Six were diagnosed with delusional disorders, 23 with paranoid schizophrenia and two with bipolar disorder.

At the end of their stay, their scores on a test called the Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale had improved by an average of nearly 20 per cent.

No specific rituals or ceremonies intended to improve mental health were performed in the temple. The patients attended a simple morning prayer for 15 minutes, and then spent the rest of the day helping out with routine temple work.

'What they were given was tender loving care in a non-threatening environment, in tune with their own cultural beliefs, with the hope of recovery,' said Mr Raguram. 'And in the history of psychiatry, these were the principles on which asylums were originally built.'

The 31 patients had been suffering for an average of 71 weeks. Only one had received any professional care.

The dramatic improvement in test scores matches those expected within four weeks of administering medicines such as chlorpromazine and risperidone, he said.

Mr Assen Jablensky, an expert on mental disorders at the University of Western Australia, noted that such findings were not specific to India, or any particular faith.

'For example, a 'treatment protocol' in many ways similar to the healing temple of Muthuswamy has been practised at the traditional therapeutic village of Aro in Nigeria,' he said.

But he cautioned that such treatments should be considered as complementary to other approaches, and not an alternative.

Antara genius dan tidak waras

Di manakah garis sempadan antara super genius dengan kegilaan atau dalam istilah lain dikenali juga sebagai schizoprenia? Garis sempadannya boleh sahaja menjadi kabur. Ini yang diperlihatkan oleh John Forbes Nash, si genius matematik yang menerima Anugerah Nobel pada tahun 1994. Dia pernah mengidap schizoprenia sebelum memenangi hadiah tersebut.

Dalam sejarah manusia, ramai antara mereka yang terkenal sebagai genius telah mempamerkan sifat-sifat yang sekarang ini dikaitkan sebagai schizoprenia, tetapi sering disalahtafsir. Antaranya pelukis terkenal Vincent Van Gogh. Penyakit schizoprenia adalah sejenis gangguan mental yang kronik, misteri dan cukup tragik. Si pesakit selalunya tidak berupaya membezakan antara yang nyata dan yang datang dalam imaginasinya. Mereka akan mendengar suara dan sering melihat visual dalam halusinasi yang sebenarnya tidak wujud.

Punca penyakit ini masih misteri dan belum diketahui. Saintis dan doktor masih belum dapat menjangka siapa yang akan mengidap schizoprenia, biarpun faktor genetik antara puncanya. Usaha mengesannya memakan masa bertahun. Schizoprenia ditandakan oleh kesan delusi, halusinasi, perbicaraan yang tidak jelas, perlakuan yang aneh atau juga kehilangan perasaan.

Tetapi schizoprenia juga bersifat paradoks. Peringkat awalnya boleh sahaja memberikan kehebatan kreativiti dan kebijaksanaan. Bagaimanapun ia beransur menjadi kronik dan berbahaya apabila berlanjutan dan tidak dirawat.

Filem A Beautiful Mind cuba menyingkap sebahagian kehidupan John Forbes Nash si genius matematik dan tragedi kehidupannya yang mengidap penyakit schizoprenia. John Nash bertanggungjawab memperkenalkan sejenis teori permainan yang dibina berasaskan matematik yang memungkinkan kedua belah pihak memenanginya.

Dia mungkin sahaja mendapat inspirasinya dari permainan dan juga wanita-wanita yang ditemuinya di pub dan cuba dipikat olehnya. Yang penting teori ini bertanggungjawab mencipta konsep Nash equilibrium yang cukup berguna dalam memahami agenda ekonomi, peperangan, manipulasi perundangan atau tindakan sekumpulan orang. Secara mudah teori ini adalah strategi untuk meramal orang.

A Beautiful Mind diarahkan oleh Ron Howard dengan lakon layar yang ditulis oleh Akiva Goldsman berdasarkan dari buku Sylvia Nassar. Nash si genius matematik ditampilkan seorang yang pemalu, sombong dan tidak banyak berbicara. Selain matematik, teman setianya hanyalah Charles Herman (Paul Bettany) iaitu teman sebiliknya yang kaki minum tetapi pada masa yang menggemari karya-karya sastera D.H. Lawrence.

Selepas menamatkan pengajian di Princeton, Nash bertugas sebagai penyelidik dan pensyarah di Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Disinilah bermulanya gelombang baru dalam kariernya apabila Nash dalam halusinasinya menerima tetamu iaitu agen FBI William Parcher (Ed Harris) dan projek memecahkan kod perang Rusia bagi pihak kerajaan Amerika.

Turut muncul dalam halusinasi Nash adalah Charles Herman bersama anaknya. Kemunculan William Parcher yang mendesak dan mengugut Nash menjadikan Nash semakin kacau dan paranoia. Dunia nyata dan imaginasinya berbaur dan Nash hilang pertimbangan. Yang turut memburukkan keadaan adalah kemunculan Herman. Mujur Alicia (Jennifer Connelly) isteri Nash berusaha memahami dan membantu mengembalikan Nash yang normal dengan membawa kembali Nash ke Universiti Princeton.

Subjek schizoprenia dalam filem bukan perkara baru, tetapi filem ini cuba memberikan kita kefahaman tentang penyakit mental secara lebih realistik. Cuma schizoprenia yang menimpa Nash adalah sesuatu yang tidak jelas. Apakah kerana kematian bapanya, isterinya yang mengandung atau perasaan kebanggaan diri yang melampau.

Russell Crowe sebagai John Nash yang hidup dan bergelut dengan dunia halusinasinya berjaya memberikan keyakinan dari gerak dan ekspresi wajahnya yang kosong, beku dan kacau itu. Dan apabila wajahnya beransur tua (walau pun di sebalik solekan) kekuatan lakonannya yang meyakinkan itu tetap terasa dan konsisten.

Connelly sebagai Alicia tampil terkawal sebagai isteri yang penyayang tetapi berdepan dengan situasi yang begitu menyukarkan dan akhirnya terpaksa berkorban demi menyelamatkan suaminya. Bagaimanapun kemunculan Ed Harris dan Paul Bettany memperlengkapkan kekuatan lakonan dalam filem ini dengan lakonan mereka yang berkarisma.

Sebuah filem biografi sebegini boleh saja cenderung untuk menjadi sentimental. Atau membosankan apatah lagi subjek yang dibicarakan adalah tentang seorang genius dengan dunia matematik yang sukar difahami itu.

Tetapi Ron Howard dan Akiva Goldsman berusaha memberikan pendekatan yang lain, berusaha mencipta struktur cerita yang cukup dramatik biarpun ada bahagian yang dipergayakan daripada hanya sebuah struktur penceritaan secara literal. Ron Howard dan Akiva memberikan tumpuan terhadap usaha dan pergelutan Nash melawan penyakit schizoprenia selama 25 tahun itu.

Bagaimanapun pada masa yang sama sebenarnya Ron Howard dan Akiva Goldsman hanya memberikan John Nash yang bersih yang berjaya melalui liku mencabar dalam hidupnya, sedangkan kisah hidup Nash yang lebih gelap seperti skandal biseksual dan hubungan seksual seperti mana yang dicatatkan dalam buku Sylvia Nassar tidak dipaparkan.

Ini kerana Akiva Goldsman masih terikat dengan pendekatan naratif Hollywood yang ketat dan kemas. Pendekatan yang kelihatan sesuai dengan kehendak Anugerah Akademi. Filem A Beautiful Mind memenangi empat anugerah Akademi termasuk Filem Terbaik dan Pengarah Terbaik.

On claims made by the Malaysian media that Singapore's reclamation works had degraded the quality of the waters off the coast of Johor, Singapore's Environment Minister Lim Swee Say said the Republic was doing whatever it could to keep the Straits of Johor clean.

The most important step was the construction of the deep tunnel sewerage system, which was expected to be ready in four to five years, he said.

The $7-billion system will channel sewage from the east to the west of the island and release it into the open sea, after it has been treated.

Mr Lim said that when the system was ready, Singapore would no longer discharge treated sewage water into the straits.

'Singapore won't renew water deal in 2011'

SINGAPORE will not renew a decades-old water agreement with Malaysia after it expires in 2011, but would keep buying water if a price could be agreed, the official Malaysian news agency Bernama reported.

Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong delivered the message to Malaysian Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, at a meeting on Monday, Bernama reported, citing Tan Sri Muhyiddin.

Officials could not immediately confirm the report, which came against a backdrop of demands by Malaysia to raise prices for the water it ships to Singapore under a pair of agreements extending to mid-century.

Mr Goh said that Singapore will favour using its own water, Bernama cited Tan Sri Muhyiddin telling a briefing for Malaysian journalists.

Singapore currently buys more than half of its water from Malaysia.

He said that Mr Goh expressed interest in buying Malaysian water after one of the agreement expires, but only if the price is 'right,' Bernama reported.

Singapore has started treating waste water from homes and businesses to make it drinkable, and will promote it as 'Newater'. -- AP
