"I GOT MORE CRICKETS THAN FRIENDS"

BY: JIZZY PEARL

Hi, before I tell you my review of the book, I should give you a little background on me, so you know where I’m coming from. I am not some "dumb metal head", I have a BA. On the other hand, I am not the most widely read person in the world, but I’ve read the classics, and I do read a lot, my favourite authors are Stephen King, Anne Rice, and Robert E Howard. My music taste runs from Hard Rock all the way to Punk, Goth and Death Metal, plus everything in between. I have been a Love/Hate fan since album 1 in 1990. I did not get a "comp" copy of this tome to ensure a good review, I paid for this sucker with cold hard cash. So if it sucked, I would tell you, but it rocks, as much as a book possibly can.

If you have read Jizzy’s early stories that I have for down load in a word.doc, then you have an idea what to expect from his book. Jizzy is Hard, Real, Honest, Uncompromising, and In Your Face! This is not the kiss and tell, bimbo, groupie book that people might expect from a Heavy Metal singer. It is more in a similar vain as Henry Rollins books/spoken word. Jizzy has given us a glimpse into his mad world via short stories and poems. Some of these stories are about him, others are made up, or could be about him, although names have been changed to protect the innocent. Some of these will have you laughing out load (you can just imagine with titles like "Colon Hydrotherapy") others will leave you thinking about your position in life, or flashing back to similar scenes in your own cloudy past.

Jizzy’s writing is not what many are used to, he is quick to the point, no B.S., or beating around the bush. His imagery is often as surreal as a Salvador Dali painting . He will offend the timid reader with his no holds barred presentation of life. If you cannot handle tales of Drug Abuse, Booze, Sex, Hatred etc., then don’t even bother. Go read something from Oprah’s Book Club. The mood of the book swings rapidly as you move from story to story, one bringing you up with a smile and laughter, the next smacking you in the face, and bringing you down, with the deteriorating state of American society.

This is a great, captivating, eye opening read, that will keep you thinking about it long after you’ve put it aside. I believe any fan of Rock/Metal/Punk will dig this book, or any fan of underground press or counter culture. It might be too much for the main stream, but what isn’t? Once you start this book, you will not be able to put it down. It is evident through the pages of this offering from King Jizzo, that in a world of manufactured bands, and soulless music, that he lives and breathes Rock ‘N Roll. Jizzo is the REAL DEAL, he has been to the mountain and back, he has wielded the Hammer of the Gods and lost it again on numerous occasions, but he always finds it again, and when he tells you something you just can’t help, but know that it is the straight shit. So do your self a favour, go to www.kingjizzo.com and buy a copy. You will not be disappointed.

Note: In the first story "The House Party" Jizzy tells us that if we do not know the music of Led Zeppelin, we should check it out, because it defined a generation. I don’t now if our good King realises it, but his music has also defined a generation. When Jizzy looks back to his youth he might think of Zeppelin 1 or 4, I think of "Black Out In The Red Room" and "Wasted In America".
