THE MUSIC PAGE!

Since I've been into music for so long, my tastes have matured and been corrupted a bit. Generally speaking the BIG name bands are pretty boring for me (often cause I found out about them years ago when they were still underground). I have always liked the twisted, darker, heavier side of the musical spectrum, but I do find bands of all genres that I like. Most of the truely original bands out there draw from several different genres to create their own unique sound and image. Currently, I am into a lot of European and Scandanavian bands, but this list contains groups from all over the place. My descriptions may help understand their style of music, but most are just extremely difficult to describe. Also many of them have radically changed their style of music from album to album. Ya just gotta hear 'em!
The band name is followed by their record label (if known). Highlighted ones are all linked.

  • My Dying Bride Slow gothic doom with clean deep vocals and guitar. They were one of the first.

  • Angezia (Napalm) Imagine classical piano with some background orchestration, beautiful operatic female vocals and gutteral male death vocals all sung in German. Very interesting!

  • Diabolique (Black Sun) Slow doom death kinda like My Dying Bride, but with more guitar riffs and filler in the background. Even deeper vocals. HOT!

  • Unleashed (Century Media) Classic anthemic death metal.

  • ELD (Discordia) Folky dark and somber.

  • Orphanage (DSFA)Power groove death metal with female backing vocals, gregorian chants and more!

  • Swans Somber soulsearching depressed rock at times, but pounding technoise at others. Trading male and female vocals make for very dynamic song writing and styling. This band has written some of the most depressing lyrics ever! "...rolling the stone up the hill of failure..."

  • Dead Can Dance (4AD) World music updated, amalgamated and brought into the 90's. Amazing intertwining male and female vocals to take your breath away.

  • Flux (Relapse) Experimental guitar driven prog rock (ala Robert Fripp)This is one of the latest outcropping from James Plotkin, the mastermind behind OLD, and several other minimalistic ambient projects.

  • Mortiis (Cold Meat Industry) Imagine JS Bach playing really dark, gothic organ music.

  • Mr. Bungle (Warner Bros) Crazy combination of carnivalesque sounds, freeform jazz, obscure samples and perverted vocals.

  • Amorphis (Relapse)

  • Korpse Extra groovy death.

  • Monstermagnet (A&M) Fuzzed out psychedelic sludge rock.

  • Gorefest Intense German thrash/death.

  • Theater of Tragedy (Century Media)

  • Fu Manchu (Mammoth) California cosmic sludge rock. Catch the groove man...

  • Foreskin 500 Perverted industrial disco thrash with cool samples and infectious rhythms. (NOT to be confused with that limpdick band Powerman 5000.)

  • In The Woods (Misanthropy)

  • Ozric Tentacles Amazing psychedellic prog rock with flute and so much more.

  • Tiamat (Century Media) Currently they are psychedellic goth-doom, but this sound has evolved out of the black metal scene.

  • Skyclad (Massacre) The band that splintered off of Sabbat. Celtic folk thrash with violins and pagan lyrics.

  • Divine Sin (Black Mark)

  • The Residents (ESD)

  • Septic Flesh (Holy) DEEP death doom from Greece. Awesome!

  • Sadist (Displeased)

  • Crematory (Massacre)

  • Sleep (Earache)Sludgey doom to smoke through.

  • dead horse Death metal put to a horsecore beat.

  • Baldo Rex (JPR)(now defunct?)Cow-punkabilly with incredible lyrics.

  • Helios Creed (Cleopatra) Member of the legendary band Chrome. As a solo act he creates guitar driven, quirky, techno, prog rock. He has also toured with Nick Turner's version of Hawkwind, and has an ambient side project called Dark Matter.

  • Atrocity (Massacre) Ever evolving thrash/death metal band. They've covered a lot of ground and spanned many genres. Extremely hard to get ahold of cause they are on the Massacre label, a label with extremely poor distribution in the US.

  • Johnny Socko An Indianapolis ska band.

  • FRANK ZAPPA The master himself. He changed the face of music.
