| Chiles vs. Leon, Jan. 31 Having beat Leon 3-1 last time we played them, we were feeling pretty good about stomping them again on our senior night. We started off the game playing some really good offense and I think from the first few minutes, it looked like we would have the game in the bag. Just when things seemed to be going good, Leon got a sorta-breakaway and scored. We were thinking it was just a fluke and that since we were dominating the game, one goal would be easy to overtake. Unfortunately, they had another nice opportunity just a few minutes later and scored a second goal. We were all shocked by this and even more mad because they weren't even playing better than us. After the 2nd goal, we began to make a few more mistakes that almost took us out of our game. While we had some fine individual performances, our team passes and connectedness just wasn't working correctly, and we struggled to find the back of the net. Jordan had a good opportunity to score in the second half, but Anna Wells (leon goalie) attacked her at we were awarded a penalty kick. I took the PK and scored, accounting for our one and only goal. Leon scored again towards the end of the game, making the score 3-1, where it would remain to the end of the game. It was dissapointing to end the regular season with a loss that should have been a win, but maybe it will be good for us to get the losses behind us so we can win from here on out. That would be nice:) Chiles vs. Lincoln, TUESDAY, JAN. 28TH We played Lincoln for the city championship on Tuesday night at their field. We had heard the news that Leon had lost to Lincoln and were excited to see what type of team Lincoln was this year. I think that a lot of my team was on a high from the Gulf Breeze game and didn't give Lincoln the concern and focus that we should have. They started off the game and quickly won a corner, forcing us to really get our heads in the game. They had to main ball controllers that their players looked for on every pass, Christina Vega and Amaka. Amaka had a lot of speed, but our defense got back and supported eachother before she had a chance to shoot. If she did shoot, Fran was always there for the save. Erin did a good job on our team of challenging for the air balls and bringing the ball down to play. I joined her in the middle and we we able to distribute the ball out to Jordan, who could beat her girl down the sideline, or to Bree and Stephanie who made some nice combinations up top. If we had just shot a little more, our chances of scoring probably would have improved:) The score was 0-0 as we went into the second half, but Jordan scored off of Erin's throw-in in the first few minutes. This was pretty impressive since the throws were very hard to see because the ball got lost in the lights. It was probably a minute after we scored that Amaka scored of a header and tied the game 1-1. It stinks to have tied the game determining the city champions and I think both teams wish that we could have a re-match! We're getting pretty tired of tying on our team and maybe this will be an inspiration for us to get a few more goals in the net:) CHILES AT GULF BREEZE, SATURDAY, JAN. 25TH TIMBERWOLVES PULL OFF THE BIGGEST WIN IN THE BIG BEND THIS YEAR!!!!!!! Today we took a bus all the way to Gulf Breeze to play a VERY big game. Gulf Breeze beat us last year in the Regional finals with a whopping 4-0 victory, so we were out for a chance to prove ourselves. We were hoping things had changed a lot since last year, and were feeling pretty confident about our tie last week to the defending state champs, Nease. I still think a lot of us walked out on the field feeling a little skeptical about our chances, but we tried not to show it. Once the game started though, we realized that there was no reason for us to be so scared, and we quickly picked up the pace and played with confidence. They had two really awesome playmakers, Annie (#4) and Shannon (#10), but we had some really solid defense in the back. Shannon had a lot of speed going down the right flank, but Jessi caught her everytime. They had a few early chances, but Fran made some good saves. After about twenty minutes of back and forth play (they probably had more possession), we got a indirect kick from a ways out. Cristin took the kick and played a beautiful ball over all of their defender's heads while I ran onto the ball..it was just me and the keeper. The keeper was running out for the ball while I was running onto it, but luckily (or skillfully:), I got there first and sent it one-touch around her. It was exciting!! We were all feeling pretty good about scoring the first goal, but we didn't want to give 'em any slack. We had a few more runs the first half, but we spent a lot of it playing defense. Allison, our center back, did an awesome job of getting back behind the ball and saving a few goals. We started the second half feeling pretty dang good, but we got a little nervous again when someone on our team had a hand ball in the box, so they got a penalty kick. The girl went right, and so did Fran! Fran pushed it away, but the girl ran back onto it and kicked it in. There was some controversy as to whether or not the girl was allowed to follow up on her shot, but since Fran touched it, it was legal. We all thought it was pretty cheap though, and didn't want to lose or tie a game because of some stupid PK. Later on that half, Erin T. did one of her flip throws right outside of the box, and Cristin took a sweet shot that bounced right over the keeper's reach! There were only about 10 minutes left in the half, so we tried to take is slow and mantain our lead...and.... WE WON!!! Some reporter guy told us after the game that Gulf Breeze hadn't lost on their home field in like 5 years, so we were even more pumped! It was a good game and now we're really excited about the rest of the season....hoping we could go all the way! |
