Project CATBIRD
Honestly, it all started with good intentions.  Science we cried!  We began looking for a suitable test site. This wasn't easy.  No tall buildings in these parts.  No suitable water towers either.  we searched high and low.  Natural cliffs didn't offer a suitable or viewable landing spot.  Then, on the way to a KISS concert in the city we spied a launch site.  It was a freeway overpass.  One of those triple decker jobs.  Had to be at least 150 feet in the air.  Traffic wasn't bad late at nite.  We just had to get the "volunteer".
As mentioned earlier, Sparky was our man (or cat as the case may be).
After the concert we decided that it was too late to launch the project.  Best to rest up for this kind of earth changing event.  We loaded up the next afternoon to head back to the city.  We couldn't believe the traffic. We had to postpone the project till later.  We went to Eddies Burgers to hang out and get some grub.  We waited till 10:00pm or so until Eddies was closed.  Sparky was lookin frisky as ever as we headed to the site.
Here is a pic looking down from the site during the day.
Another angle.
Once we got to the sight we pulled over at the top of the pass.  Sparky was a little anxious as we held him out over the edge.  Traffic was lite.  We timed the drop and let him go.  There was just enough light to see him fall.  We released Sparky in the upsidedown (paws up) position to test the landing on their feet part.  He seemed to flail wildly as he fell.  It was really too dark to see if he hit the ground with his paws first.
It was too dark to get any good pics so we hurried back the next day.  This is the way we found Sparky.  As far as the project goes we really didn't get any conclusive evidence.  It looked more like he died from an auto-pet accident than from the fall.  It was too dark when he landed to tell if he landed on his feet.  Sometimes projects go bad and you just can't get the scientific results you need
